Quinton Patton TSX Player News Log
05/02/13 - SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, self-admittedly, has a new favorite player. The honor belongs to fourth-round pick Quinton Patton, a wide receiver from Louisiana Tech, and the rationale has nothing to do with football. Patton was so excited to begin his NFL career that after being drafted by the 49ers, he bought his own plane ticket and flew from Nashville to San Francisco to get to work. Except there was one problem: rookies aren't allowed to be at their team facility until rookie minicamps officially begin. If they do show, they won't be able to participate in those minicamps. "He calls us (Monday), and he said he's here," Harbaugh said in an interview on KNBR 680 raiod. "He's on his way, just landed at the airport, he's in his rental car, he's coming over to the facility and he can't wait to get started. Which we had to go, 'You're where? What airport did you fly into? You're in a rental car driving here?'" "Yeah, coach," Patton said. "I'm 20 minutes away." In somewhat of a panic, Harbaugh had to tell him to flip a U-turn and head back to the airport. "The amazing story is we had to (tell him) on the phone, "Stop, Quinton. You've got to go back to the airport and fly back to Nashville," Harbaugh said. "You can't come here until the rookie minicamp." The team informed the league of the mix-up and also got in touch with his agent, who said, "You know, Quinton said he was so excited to get started he was just going to get a plane ticket and fly himself out there. But I thought he was just kidding." The gung-ho attitude made an impression on Harbaugh, who likened it to something he would have done. "He's already my favorite guy," Harbaugh said. When the idea that cutting him would now be more difficult if it came to that, Harbaugh dismissed that as a possibility. "That's not going to happen," he said.
04/28/13 - A closer look at the 49ers' picks: Round 4/128 -- Quinton Patton, WR, 6-0, 204, Louisiana Tech...Given a second-round grade by some talent evaluators, Patton was the key cog in the nation's highest scoring offense. He caught 104 passes for 1,392 yards and 13 touchdowns and could push A.J. Jenkins for playing time. - The Sports Xchange
04/25/13 - DANE BRUGLER'S FINAL 2013 DRAFT BOARD: 42. WR Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech (6-0, 204, 5SR)...Although he doesn't look like much physically, Patton has the foot quickness to create after the catch and always seems to be playing fast but under control. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
04/08/13 - 2013 Louisiana Tech Pro Day: There were a total of 23 NFL teams represented at Louisiana Tech Pro Day on March 26. The workout was held outdoors on field-turf. A total of 24 players worked out. Quinton Patton WR (6-0 ¼, 202 pounds) – He ran 4.48 and 4.50 in the 40-yard dash. He recorded a 37-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-6 broad jump. Patton kept the rest of his numbers from the combine. He looked very good. Patton had a couple drops early but then looked very good catching the ball. He’s probably going to be a second-round pick. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
01/24/13 - 2013 Senior Bowl, Wide Receivers, Three up...3. Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech. Many analysts were surprised by how well Patton adapted to playing with kids from big schools as he stood out for the right reasons. He was quick off the snap and ran really well. Though he didn't have a breakaway gear, he did show off great hands and concentration throughout the week, particularly on Wednesday when he caught a pass from E.J. Manuel with a defender right on his hip. Expect teams to study up on him and consider him to be a Z receiver. - Dave Richard, CBSSports.com
01/22/13 - 2013 SENIOR BOWL, TUESDAY RISER: WR Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech (South Team)...Although this year's senior wide receiver group doesn't have a lock first round talent, Quinton Patton is making a strong case to be considered among the top-32 picks. Thus far at practice, he has looked more impressive than Baylor's Terrance Williams and others with his controlled athleticism to separate and change gears. Patton doesn't have elite size (6-0, 202) or speed, but he plays fast and balanced with the hands to be a reliable go-to target. He likely won't get out of the top-60 selections. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/16/12 - 2012 AP ALL-AMERICAN SECOND TEAM: WR - Quinton Patton, senior, Louisiana Tech...Patton, a native of La Vergne, Tenn., caught 104 passes for 1,392 yards and 13 touchdowns in 12 games this season. He finished the year averaging 13.4 yards per catch and 116.0 yards per game, ranking fourth in the nation in receiving yards per game and fifth in the nation in receptions per game. Patton was also fifth in the nation in touchdowns scored among wide receivers. - Louisiana Tech football
12/07/12 - 2012 ALL-WAC FIRST TEAM (COACHES): WR-Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech, Sr., has been selected First Team All-Western Athletic Conference (Coaches selection) for the 2012 college football season. - Louisiana Tech Football
10/16/12 - 10-15-12 NFL DRAFT SCOUT RISER: WR QUINTON PATTON, LOUISIANA TECH...In a senior class without a clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver prospect, Quinton Patton is making a strong case to be ranked above Baylor’s Terrance Williams, Marshall’s Aaron Dobson and other highly-touted senior wideouts. Although it was somewhat overlooked because his performance came in thrilling loss that didn’t end until early 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, Patton had a career-game against Texas A&M on Saturday night. He finished with 21 catches for 233 yards (11.1 average) and four touchdowns, all career-bests. Listed at 6-2 and 205 pounds, Patton lacks imposing size, but he uses his length well and has deceiving strength to make plays after first contact. He has a great feel in coverage, both before the catch to gain some separation and after the reception to create with the ball in his hands. Patton has quick feet, vision and acceleration to elude defenders and weave through the secondary. He tracks the ball extremely well with very good balance and coordination, quickly turning upfield in the same motion as the catch. Patton won’t test off the charts and plays for a team that doesn’t produce a lot of NFL talent, but he’s a top-100 prospect and rising. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
10/15/12 - WEEK 7 WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Louisiana Tech wide receiver Quinton Patton, a senior from La Vergne, Tenn. (Coffeyville CC), tied a school record with 21 catches for 233 yards and four touchdowns in Louisiana Tech's 59-57 loss to Texas A&M. He scored three of his four touchdowns in the second half as the Bulldogs rallied from a 27-0 deficit to pull within two points twice in the fourth quarter. The 21 catches are the most by any receiver in the nation this year and one shy of the WAC record of 22 set by BYU's Jay Miller in 1973. Others nominated on offense: junior quarterback David Fales, San Jose State; senior quarterback Shaun Rutherford, Texas State; and senior running back Kerwynn Williams, Utah State. - WAC football
