03/10/14 - CB Sam Shields agreed to a four-year contract on Saturday keeping him away from unrestricted free agency. According to ESPN, the $39 million deal includes a signing bonus of $12.5 million and pays out $30 million in the first three years: $15 million in the first season, $6 million in the second and $9 million in the third. Shields' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed the news on Twitter: "Congrats to RSR client Sam Shields & the Green Bay Packers on the new contract!" Shields had a breakout season after playing for a restricted free-agent tender of $2.023 million in 2013. He finished with a career-high four interceptions and had 61 tackles in 14 games.
01/07/14 - CB Sam Shields suffered a game-ending injury to his left knee on the second play of San Francisco's first series in the 49ers' 23-20 win in the first round of the playoffs Sunday. Multiple reports Monday indicated Shields suffered a bone bruise in the knee when he collided with linebacker Andy Mulumba at the end of a pass play.

11/29/13 - CB Sam Shields returned to action and made the start in the 40-10 loss at Detroit on Thursday. Shields, who had his second interception of the season defending the Lions' Calvin Johnson in the end zone, had missed the previous two games because of a hamstring injury.
11/27/13 - --CB Sam Shields (hamstring) is expected to play Thursday at Detroit. Shields, who has missed the last two games, had full status for the second straight day in the team's abbreviated practice Wednesday. The starter is listed as probable for the game.
11/26/13 - CB Sam Shields (hamstring) had full participation in the team's jog-through practice Tuesday. Coach Mike McCarthy said afterward that he expects Shields to play Thursday at Detroit after the team's most effective cornerback missed the last two games.
11/25/13 - CB Sam Shields (hamstring) didn't play for the second straight game in the 26-26 tie against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Davon House had another start in Shields' absence. Shields was considered Monday to have limited status on the team's estimated injury report had it held practice ahead of the Thanksgiving Day game at Detroit on Thursday.
11/22/13 - CB Sam Shields (hamstring) did not practice Friday and was listed as questionable to face the Vikings.
11/21/13 - --CB Sam Shields (hamstring) has yet to practice this week. Head coach Mike McCarthy on Thursday put Shields' chances of playing Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings at "50-50." Shields didn't play in the loss to the New York Giants last weekend after he had been probable for the game. If Shields can't play Sunday, Davon House would likely make another start opposite Tramon Williams.
11/20/13 - CB Sam Shields (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, putting his status in question for the upcoming game against Minnesota on Sunday. Shields suffered his leg injury in practice last Thursday and wasn't able to play in the loss at the New York Giants. Head coach Mike McCarthy merely said Wednesday that Shields was going through the rehab phase in his recovery.
