Sam Shields TSX Player News Log
11/16/15 - CB Sam Shields returned to action Sunday and made his customary start. Shields missed the loss at Carolina the previous week because of a shoulder injury.
11/13/15 - CB Sam Shields (shoulder) practiced Thursday on a limited basis for the second straight day. McCarthy said before Thursday's practice that he was "very encouraged" by Shields coming off his return to the field the previous day. Shields, who has a co-team-high two interceptions, is working toward being cleared by the medical staff for Sunday's game against the Lions after missing the loss at Carolina last Sunday because of a sprained right shoulder.
11/11/15 - CB Sam Shields (shoulder) returned to the field Wednesday, practicing in limited fashion. The team's top cornerback had been sidelined since suffering a sprained right shoulder early in the Nov. 1 loss at the Denver Broncos. Shields is cautiously optimistic about being able to return to game action Sunday, when the Packers host the Detroit Lions. If Shields is cleared for the game, he said he'll wear a protective brace on the shoulder.
11/09/15 - CB Sam Shields (shoulder) didn't play in Green Bay's loss at Carolina on Sunday. Shields has been sidelined since suffering the injury early in the Nov. 1 defeat at the Denver Broncos.
11/05/15 - CB Sam Shields (shoulder) has yet to practice this week, increasing the chances he won't be able to play Sunday at Carolina. Shields, who has a co-team-high two interceptions, suffered the injury to his right shoulder early in the loss at Denver on Sunday night. If Shields can't go this weekend, the Packers could be left with a starting cornerback tandem of Casey Hayward and rookie Damarious Randall, both of whom played poorly in coverage against the Broncos.
11/04/15 - CB Sam Shields (shoulder) didn't practice Wednesday. The team's top cornerback sustained the injury to his right shoulder early in the loss at Denver on Sunday night. Though the injury isn't considered serious, it's uncertain whether Shields is in jeopardy of not playing Sunday at the Carolina Panthers.
11/03/15 - CB Sam Shields (shoulder) is on the mend this week with an injury that isn't considered as serious as it appeared after he sustained it early in the loss at Denver on Sunday night. Shields didn't play the rest of the game after hurting his right shoulder as he tried to make a lunging open-field tackle in the first quarter. Multiple reports Monday said Shields' status is day-to-day, though it's uncertain whether Green Bay's Pro Bowl cornerback is in jeopardy of not playing Sunday at the Carolina Panthers.
11/02/15 - CBs Sam Shields and Quinten Rollins both were knocked out of the game in the first half with shoulder injuries. The depleted secondary has been at the center of a couple of tough outings in a row that has seen the opposition throw for more than 800 yards.
12/09/14 - CB Sam Shields made the start in Monday's 43-37 victory over the Falcons. Shields came into the game as questionable after not practicing during the week because of a concussion he sustained in Green Bay's previous game. The Packers pulled Shields in favor of Davon House in the fourth quarter after Shields allowed a 22-yard touchdown catch by Julio Jones.
12/05/14 - CB Sam Shields missed a second straight day of practice Friday as he continues to go through the league-mandated testing after sustaining a concussion in the 26-21 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday. Head coach Mike McCarthy didn't shed any light after practice Friday on Shields' status for the Monday night game against the Atlanta Falcons. "As we all know, you're either in it (the concussion protocol) or you're not. He's making progress," McCarthy said. Davon House or Casey Hayward would be elevated to a starting role if Shields can't play Monday.
