Sam Shields TSX Player News Log
12/09/14 - CB Sam Shields made the start in Monday's 43-37 victory over the Falcons. Shields came into the game as questionable after not practicing during the week because of a concussion he sustained in Green Bay's previous game. The Packers pulled Shields in favor of Davon House in the fourth quarter after Shields allowed a 22-yard touchdown catch by Julio Jones.
12/05/14 - CB Sam Shields missed a second straight day of practice Friday as he continues to go through the league-mandated testing after sustaining a concussion in the 26-21 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday. Head coach Mike McCarthy didn't shed any light after practice Friday on Shields' status for the Monday night game against the Atlanta Falcons. "As we all know, you're either in it (the concussion protocol) or you're not. He's making progress," McCarthy said. Davon House or Casey Hayward would be elevated to a starting role if Shields can't play Monday.
12/04/14 - CB Sam Shields didn't practice Thursday as the Packers returned to the field in advance of their Monday night game against the Falcons. Shields suffered a game-ending concussion in the second quarter of Green Bay's win over the Patriots on Sunday. Shields, who has two interceptions and 11 pass breakups this season, continues to go through the league-mandated protocol of medical evaluation for players who have head injuries. Head coach Mike McCarthy didn't reveal anything definitively on whether Shields is in danger of missing the upcoming game. Davon House and Casey Hayward are candidates to take over for Shields in the starting lineup if needed.
12/01/14 - CB Sam Shields suffered a game-ending concussion early in the second quarter of the Packers' 26-21 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday. Head coach Mike McCarthy on Monday said Shields would be going through the league-mandated protocol for head injuries this week. It's unknown if the veteran starter will need to miss any on-field time later this week with the Packers not returning to practice until Thursday ahead of their Monday night game against the Atlanta Falcons.
11/10/14 - CB Sam Shields made the start Sunday against the Bears after missing the previous two games because of an injury to his left knee.
11/06/14 - CB Sam Shields practiced in full fashion Thursday for the second straight day and should be back in action when the Packers host the rival Bears on Sunday night. Shields, the team's top cover man, has missed the last two games because of a strained patellar tendon in his left knee.
11/05/14 - CB Sam Shields practiced on a full-time basis Wednesday and appears to be on track to play Sunday night against the Bears. The team's top cover man missed the last two games because of a strained patellar tendon in his left knee.
11/03/14 - CB Sam Shields participated in the team's workout Monday, a good sign as the team's top cover man looks to get the green light for the game against the Bears. Shields has missed the last two games because of a strained patellar tendon in his left knee.
10/23/14 - CB Sam Shields has yet to practice this week, raising the likelihood he will miss a second straight game because of a strained left knee when the Packers play at the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night. Head coach Mike McCarthy didn't provide an update on Shields' status after practice Thursday. Green Bay doesn't practice Friday, when the final injury report is released, and the team will have a walk-through session on the field Saturday before departing for New Orleans. If Shields isn't cleared by the weekend, Davon House is the top candidate to make another start in Shields' absence opposite Tramon Williams.
10/22/14 - CB Sam Shields wasn't cleared to practice Wednesday and remains a big question mark for playing Sunday night at the New Orleans Saints. Head coach Mike McCarthy left the door open Wednesday for the team's top cover man to play. Shields is dealing with a strained left knee that kept from playing the blowout win over the Carolina Panthers last Sunday. If Shields is out again this weekend, Davon House is expected to continue manning the starting spot at right cornerback.
