Chimdi Chekwa TSX Player News Log
10/17/16 - CB Chimdi Chekwa, signed last week, played briefly from scrimmage against Pittsburgh. Chekwa recorded two tackles.
10/12/16 - CB Chimdi Chekwa, who was among the final cuts of training camp, was signed Tuesday. Chekwa was attempting to overcome a devastating knee injury sustained two years ago and flashed signs of promise in training camp.
08/23/16 - CB Chimdi Chekwa (thigh) returned to practice on a limited basis Tuesday, adding to speculation the battle on the left side could get to full speed in a couple of weeks. Chekwa was competing with starter Tony Lippett when he went down, but now Chekwa, Xavien Howard and Bobby McCain could all get a look next week with Chris Culliver (knee) still rehabbing his injury.
08/09/16 - CB Chimdi Chekwa (thigh), who was battling Tony Lippett for the starting job on the left side, remains sidelined and might be losing ground in his bid to start. Lippett, while not the ideal because he's a converted receiver who was a fifth-round pick last year, hasn't shared snaps with anyone else on the first team. Chekwa overtook Lippett with the first team for an entire practice before going back to alternating and then sustaining his injury.
02/23/16 - CB Chimdi Chekwa was signed by the Dolphins Monday (Feb. 22). Chekwa played four seasons (2011-14) for the Oakland Raiders and appeared in 32 games with four starts. He totaled 32 tackles (28 solo), four passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Chekwa was signed by New England as an unrestricted free agent in 2015 and later signed with the Raiders again before training camp but did not participate in any games. He entered the league as a fourth round (113th overall) draft choice by the Raiders in 2011 out of Ohio State, where he was a first team All-American as a senior.
09/29/15 - CB Chimdi Chekwa had his contract terminated from reserve/injured by the Raiders Monday (Sept. 28).
09/12/15 - CB Chimdi Chekwa was placed on reserve/injured by the Raiders Monday (Sept. 7).
09/07/15 - CB Chimdi Chekwa was placed on injured reserve.
05/21/15 - CB Chimdi Chekwa is back with the Raiders, signing with the Raiders Wednesday (May 20) after briefly joining the New England Patriots. Chekwa became a free agent in March after four years with the Raiders and was signed by the Patriots, who released him on Monday. Last season, Chekwa played in 10 games for the Raiders and had five tackles and two passes defensed. He also led Oakland in special teams tackles with nine. Drafted in the fourth round by the Raiders in 2011, Chekwa has 35 tackles, six passes defensed and 20 special teams tackles in 32 career games and four starts with Oakland.
05/19/15 - CB Chimdi Chekwa had his contract terminated by the Patriots Monday (May 18).
