Joe Madsen TSX Player News Log
08/31/13 - OL Joe Madsen was released Saturday by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
03/24/13 - 2013 West Virginia Pro Day: Joe Madsen, OL (301 lbs) - Madsen opted to keep his 40-yard dash times from the NFL Scouting Combine, but he did run some other drills. He posted a 27 inch vertical and 8-foot-10 broad jump. In the running drills, Madsen ran a 4.86 short shuttle and finished the three-cone shuttle in 7.58 seconds. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
01/13/13 - West Virginia University football sports information director Mike Montoro has confirmed that center Joe Madsen has accepted an invitation to play in this year’s Senior Bowl to be played Jan. 26 in Mobile, Ala. The game will once again be televised nationally on NFL Network.

Madsen started all 12 regular season games for the Mountaineers in 2012 and made 50 starts during his four-year career, but following West Virginia’s final regular season game against Kansas, Madsen was ruled academically ineligible for West Virginia’s 2012 Pinstripe Bowl game against Syracuse. Madsen also missed West Virginia’s 2010 Champs Sports Bowl game against NC State. In December, Madsen was named all-Big 12 Conference second team.

The Chardon, Ohio resident becomes the 46th Mountaineer player to accept an invitation to play in college football’s most prestigious all-star game, and the 17th since 2004. - John Antonik, WVUsports.com

12/26/12 - Syracuse has already had a few of it players supended for Saturday's Pinstripe Bowl against West Virginia, and now the Mountaineers have noted one of their starters will be missing for that bowl game as well. West Virginia starting center Joey Madsen did not travel with the team to New York because of academic issues, the Charleston Daily Mail reported.

Madsen, a second-team all-Big 12 selection this season, has started 50 of the past 51 games for the Mountaineers. The only game he missed in that stretch was the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl, and that was also for academic reasons. - The Sports Xchange

12/10/12 - 2012 ALL-BIG 12 SECOND TEAM (COACHES): OL Joe Madsen, West Virginia, Sr., Chardon, Ohio/Chardon, has been selected Second Team All-Big 12 Conference (Coaches selection) for the 2012 college football season. - West Virginia football

07/17/12 - Top-five West Virginia prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft: 5. C Joe Madsen...After redshirting in 2008, Madsen has started the past 38 consecutive games for West Virginia - all but seven of them (RG) coming at the center position. Madsen has been earning all-conference recognition from the media since 2009 and gained acknowledgement as a Second Team All-Big East player last season by the league's coaching staffs. Playing in this offense, Madsen has proven to be a capable shotgun snapper, demonstrating the combination of awareness, quickness and balance scouts are looking for in middle to late round center prospect. To improve his standing with scouts, Madsen needs to continue to get stronger, as he relies on his quickness and technique to create holes. When faced with stronger defenders, Madsen can struggle to generate movement at the point of attack, resulting in his playing lower but also ducking his head on impact, at times, which can lead to successful swim moves by his opponent. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
07/10/12 - 2012 RIMINGTON TROPHY AWARD PRESEASON WATCHLIST: Joe Madsen, West Virginia, RS Senior, has been selected to the 2012 preseason watch list for the The Rimington Trophy, presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A College Football. - The Rimington Trophy
