01/15/13 - EAST WEST SHRINE TUESDAY EAST PRACTICE: Army wide receiver Trent Steelman is the do-it-all weapon for the East team. After an up-and-down first practice, he looked much more confident Tuesday at receiver and made several impressive catches, including a diving grab near the sideline on an out route. Steelman has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 19 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. Tyson Steelman said his brother will play slot receiver and some running back for the East team. Leeman Bennett and Jerry Glanville will coach the teams.
Steelman broke 1946 Heisman Trophy winner Glenn Davisí academy career rushing touchdown record (45) this season. Steelmanís 17 rushing touchdowns tied an Army record. Senior quarterback Trent Steelman earned his way onto the team after leading the team in rushing with a West Point quarterback record 1,248 yards. 11/03/12 - Trent Steelman rushed for 101 yards and scored twice, the Army defense held Air Force's high-powered offense in check for three quarters, and the Black Knights beat the Falcons 41-21 on Saturday to snap a six-game losing streak in the series. Army (2-7) also stopped a 13-game skid in service academy games and stayed in the hunt for its first Commander-in-Chief's Trophy since 1996. The coveted hardware goes to the academy with the best record in the annual round-robin competition. Air Force (5-4) has won it outright the past two seasons. Navy beat the Falcons 28-21 in overtime a month ago. Steelman was injured and did not play against Air Force last season in a 24-14 road loss. He more than made up for that absence on this day in a contest featuring the top two rushing teams in the nation. Steelman, who moved past Glenn Davis into third place all-time in rushing at West Point with 2,983 yards, passed for 100 yards and guided a ground attack that netted 314. 10/06/12 - Trent Steelman rushed for 141 yards and scored three times, including a decisive 29-yard touchdown run with 45 seconds left, and Army beat Boston College 34-31 on Saturday to snap an eight-game losing streak. After Grochowski's 20-yard field goal gave Army a 27-24 lead with 9:04 left, Boston College (1-4) awoke after a listless third quarter. Chase Rettig hit Johnathan Coleman for 30 yards and a 5-yard run by Andre Williams put the Eagles at the Army 24. On the next play, Alex Amidon, who had five catches for 85 yards, darted around from the left side, took a handoff, and with Rettig leading the way raced untouched along the right side to give the Eagles a 31-27 lead with 6:11 left. 07/20/12 - 2012 DAVEY O'BRIEN PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Trent Steelman, Army, has been selected to the Preseason Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List for the 2012 college football season, presented annually to the nationís best college quarterback by The Davey O'Brien Foundation. Steelman returns for his fourth season as Army's starting signal caller. The only player in Black Knights' history to rush for 2,000 yards and pass for 2,000 yards during their career, Steelman enters his senior season ranked fifth on Army's career total offense ledger. He needs just 242 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns to break the Academy career marks for yards and touchdowns by a quarterback. The three finalists will be named on Monday, Nov. 19. The 2012 Davey O'Brien Winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 6.
