Chad Bumphis TSX Player News Log
05/03/13 - Dolphins Sign 19 Undrafted College Free Agents...WR - CHAD BUMPHIS (5-10, 196, 10/18/89, Mississippi State): Appeared in 51 games with 35 starts in his career … Totaled 159 receptions in his career for 2,273 yards and 24 touchdowns. - MiamiDolphins.com
03/07/13 - 2013 Mississippi State Pro Day: Representatives from 21 NFL teams gathered at Mississippi State’s pro day on March 6, where 18 players worked out. Chad Bumphis, WR (5-10 1/8, 196) - Bumphis ran the 40 in 4.58 and 4.52 seconds, 6.91 in the three-cone drill and 4.26 in the short shuttle. He had a 35-inch vertical and 9-10 broad jump, and performed 17 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Neither Bumphis nor McCardell were invited to the combine, and each player is a possible rookie free-agent pickup this spring. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
03/05/13 - Johnthan Banks will not be the only player trying to convince NFL coaches and general managers he’s capable of much more than what they see on paper Wednesday at Mississippi State’s pro day. Former MSU receiver Chad Bumphis, who did not get an invite to last week’s NFL Combine, says he has lost five to six pounds (he’s hovering at 194 pounds) and is aiming for an eye-opening time when he runs the 40-yard dash Wednesday. “Somewhere in the 4.4 range is what I want,” Bumphis said Tuesday. “Anything there would be good.”

Bumphis has spent most of the offseason in Tampa training for the pro day, which could help the Bulldogs’ career receiving yards leader land a spot in the middle rounds of April’s NFL Draft. He has impressed scouts on film. His most noticeable strength is his timing on routes and his crisp breaks, but scouts want to know more about his speed. “They like my routes but they’re anxious to see my 40,” Bumphis said. “… It’ll be a good time.” The 5-foot-11 Bumphis, who had an SEC-best 12 touchdown catches in 2012, says his trainer has refused to show him his 40 time. “They won’t tell me,” he said. “They say I’m getting better.” - Brandon Marcello, Mississippi State Sports

01/01/13 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: WR Chad Bumphis will go down as one of the best receivers in MSU history, and he has Russell to thank. The senior could eclipse 1,000 receiving yards (he sits at 904, 12 TDs) in the bowl game, and is Russell's primary pass option on post and corner routes, which seem to be Bumphis' specialty this season. - The Sports Xchange
12/08/12 - 2012 ALL-SEC SECOND TEAM (MEDIA): WR - Chad Bumphis, Mississippi State, Sr., has been selected Second Team All-Southeastern Conference (Media selection) for the 2012 college football season. Bumphis made the squad after becoming the first Bulldog since 1973 to lead the league with a school-record 12 touchdown receptions. - Mississippi State football
11/26/12 - WEEK 13 SEC OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE: WR CHAD BUMPHIS (Mississippi State) -- Caught team-high six passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns against Ole Miss. - SEC football
09/17/12 - WEEK 3 SEC OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE: WR CHAD BUMPHIS (Mississippi State) -- Caught six passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns against Troy. - SEC football
09/15/12 - Tyler Russell and Chad Bumphis hooked up on touchdown passes of 72, 58 and 25 yards to help lead Mississippi State to a 30-24 victory over Troy on Saturday night. The Bulldogs (3-0) finished their scoring with Bumphis's 25-yarder at the back of the end zone on fourth-and-4 with 7:00 left. That proved enough in the latest Sun Belt scare against a Southeastern Conference team. The Trojans (1-2) stayed within striking distance with Will Scott's 40-yard field goal three minutes later in Troy's first time hosting an SEC team. LaDarius Perkins, who gained 179 yards on 23 carries, helped the Bulldogs run out the clock. Bumphis became the first Mississippi State player to catch three touchdown passes since Sammy Milner did it against Florida in 1969. He had six catches for a career-high 180 yards. Mississippi State is off to its first 3-0 start since 1999. - AP Sports
09/11/12 - WR Chad Bumphis' 13-yard touchdown reception against Auburn was only his third TD catch in an SEC game. The senior has 14 touchdown catches in his career. - The Sports Xchange
09/05/12 - Dan Mullen has never beaten Auburn. Mississippi State's fourth-year coach is 0-3 as a head coach and 0-2 as an assistant at Florida against the Tigers, who travel to Starkville for an important SEC opener Saturday (11 a.m., ESPN). "We're ready for this game," said Mullen, whose Bulldogs are 1-0 after a 56-9 trouncing of Jackson State. "Obviously it's great to get the SEC season underway. A big game for us. I've made a huge emphasis and I've talked about it over and over. If you want to compete for a championship, you have to win all your home games because the competitiveness of being on the road in this league is tough." Doing so would certainly buck history. Mullen is 3-12 record against the SEC West and he has yet to defeat an opponent in MSU's home division other than Ole Miss. "We've beaten Florida, Georgia, Michigan," Mullen said. "We've beaten a lot of teams and we've lost to a bunch of teams too." Is there a monkey on Mullen's back entering this game? "You guys think about it," Mullen told reporters this week. "To be honest, I've never thought of it." It's certainly an important game to the Bulldogs on the roster. MSU had chances to either tie or defeat Auburn in the final minutes in the last two meetings against the Tigers, but were stopped short on its final offensive drives. The biggest blow came in 2011, when then-MSU quarterback Chris Relf was upended at the goal line as time expired on a 41-34 Auburn win. Players cried and the season "stalled" as a result of the loss, tight end Brandon Hill said. The Bulldogs finished 7-6. "Never again," said MSU junior receiver Chad Bumphis. - The Sports Xchange
