04/24/13 - 2013 NFL DRAFT RANG'S GANG: ILB: A.J. Klein, Iowa State, 6-1, 250, 4.66...Proving bigger and faster than virtually any of the inside linebackers tested this year at the combine, Klein shattered the misconception that his eye-popping production reflected good instincts which masked less-than-ideal athleticism. Of course, scouts should have known this already based on the FBS record he set for linebackers with four touchdowns scored off of interceptions over his career. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
04/08/13 - 2013 Iowa State Pro Day: Representatives from 16 NFL teams - including the linebackers coaches from the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles - gathered at Iowa State’s pro day on March 26, where 15 players worked out indoors on FieldTurf.

A.J. Klein, ILB (6-foot-1 1/2, 246 pounds) - Klein had a 33-inch vertical jump, 4.35-second short shuttle and 7.09-second three-cone drill. He stood on his official 40-yard dash time of 4.66 seconds recorded at the NFL Scouting Combine. Klein was favoring his right knee during the pro day workout, but had a good performance anyway. Klein - who is from Kimberly, Wis. - is one of the few athletes to leave the state of Wisconsin and really work out well elsewhere. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

02/20/13 - 2013 NFL Combine, Most to gain: While Te'o will draw most of the camera flashes, one inside linebacker who has proven to be a consistent playmaker in college with supposedly less than ideal athleticism is Iowa State's A.J. Klein. Voted the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Big 12 in 2011 and having posted similar statistics as a senior, the 6-1, 245-pound Klein is well known to scouts and his name in the record books with four career interceptions returned for touchdowns, tied for most among FBS linebackers. Should Klein run well, he could help serve notice to scouts that he possesses legitimate athleticism to go along with his instincts and high-revving motor. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
12/31/12 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB A.J. Klein leads Iowa State with 98 tackles. He has a knack for finding the football and the Cyclones need production from him to win, especially with LB Jake Knott out following shoulder surgery. - The Sports Xchange

He enters the Dec. 31 Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn. with 342 career tackles and 19 tackles for loss. His four career interception returns for touchdowns equal the NCAA record for linebackers.

Klein was a first-team selection by the Big 12 coaches and second-team choice by the conference's coaches last season. The 2011 Big 12 co-Defensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches earned honorable mention honors for that award this season. Klein was an honorable mention choice on the AP team in 2010. - Iowa State football
