"He had one of the best games I've ever seen a defensive player play," said Dom Capers, Green Bay's first-year defensive coordinator and longtime NFL coach. "We've been asking him to do a lot; he's playing a lot of different positions. We've got four or five different personnel groups where he's playing in different places."
Nov 18 2009 - Mason Crosby PK kicker Mason Crosby's ongoing struggle from long range on field goals has been a head scratcher. The strong-legged Crosby has connected on 15 of 20 attempts this season, but all five misses are from 49 yards and beyond. He is 1-of-5 from 50-plus yards, including four straight misses, after going 6-for-11 from that range his first two years in the league. "We haven't hit the 50-yarders like we would like. There is no question about that," head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday. McCarthy, though, didn't come down on Crosby as he did two days earlier in sending a pointed message to inconsistent punter Jeremy Kapinos, who appears to be on a short lease with a paltry net average of 33 yards. "There are a number of factors that play into trying those (long) field goals, but I still have confidence," McCarthy said. "I think I have illustrated that by the opportunities that have been given to Mason. I think he is fully capable of making those kicks. I wouldn't put him in the position if I didn't think he could be successful."

Jennings has just two touchdown receptions this season and only one in the last eight games.

"Jeremy needs to punt better, (and) he knows that," McCarthy said. "He's a young man that does a very good job throughout the week and just needs to be more consistent on game day."
Kapinos' up-and-down season persisted Sunday with averages of 43.7 gross yards and only 35 net yards in seven punts.
Nov 16 2009 - Mark Tauscher OT Mark Tauscher should return this week from a knee sprain that kept him out of Sunday's game. He will be put through a workout Tuesday and could be cleared to resume practicing Wednesday. Even with Tauscher's return, coach Mike McCarthy suggested that rookie T.J. Lang, who replaced Tauscher against the Cowboys, would stay put in the starting lineup.
"We'd like to line up with five offensive linemen in the same spots and gain some continuity and consistency. So, we'll continue to work for that goal," said McCarthy, who has trotted out six different starting offensive lines in the first nine games.

Nov 16 2009 - Aaron Kampman LB Aaron Kampman should be back on the practice field Wednesday, when the Packers begin on-field preparations for their next game against the San Francisco 49ers. A concussion kept Kampman from playing in the Packers' 17-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the first game he has missed for an injury-related reason since October 2003. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Kampman would regain his starting job at left outside linebacker if he's cleared to play against the 49ers, but apparently nothing is guaranteed after that.
