 Latest Vikings Player Notes
Sep 1 2010 - E.J. Henderson
LB E.J. Henderson suffered a broken femur last December in Arizona, and it looked as if his career might be finished. But Henderson has been on the field since the start of training camp and his workload has been gradually increased. In the Vikings' third preseason game, Henderson was used in the base defense and remained in the game in nickel situations with Greenway. He appears to be ready for the Sept. 9 regular-season opener at New Orleans.

Sep 1 2010 - Antoine Winfield
CB Antoine Winfield appears to be completely recovered from the broken foot that slowed him last season. He will begin the year as the starter on the left side. Winfield ended up having to play in the slot late in 2009 because the injury slowed him after he returned.

Sep 1 2010 - Joe Webb
QB Joe Webb has seen playing time in each of the Vikings' preseason games and it remains to be seen if the team will try to get the sixth-round pick from Alabama-Birmingham through waivers and onto their practice squad or keep him on the 53-man roster. Webb is raw as a quarterback, but his athletic ability might be hard for another team to pass up.

Sep 1 2010 - Jimmy Kennedy
DT Jimmy Kennedy missed the Seattle game because of an undisclosed injury suffered on Aug. 22 against San Francisco. Kennedy has yet to practice this week.

Sep 1 2010 - Anthony Herrera
RG Anthony Herrera has been getting work as the first-team center with John Sullivan sidelined because of a calf injury that has cost him much of camp. The Vikings could open the regular season on Sept. 9 with Herrera at center and rookie fifth-round pick Chris DeGeare at right guard.

Sep 1 2010 - Cedric Griffin
CB Cedric Griffin continues to rehab from an ACL injury suffered in last season's NFC title game and it's not certain if he will remain on the physically unable to perform list to begin the regular season or be active. The knee injury to CB Chris Cook makes it more likely that Griffin won't be placed on PUP because that would mean he would have to miss six weeks.

Sep 1 2010 - Toby Gerhart
RB Toby Gerhart suffered a knee injury against the Seahawks that kept him out for one practice this week. He returned on Tuesday.

Sep 1 2010 - Greg Camarillo
WR Greg Camarillo caught a team-high four passes for 47 yards last Saturday in his first game with the Vikings. The sure-handed receiver could become one of Brett Favre's favorite targets.

Sep 1 2010 - Asher Allen
CB Asher Allen has likely won the nickel job now that CB Benny Sapp has been traded. Allen has worked inside with the first team in the nickel package during the preseason and appears comfortable in that role.

Aug 31 2010 - Sidney Rice
WR Sidney Rice was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He can't be eligible to play until after Week 6. Coach Brad Childress said last week the team hasn't ruled out injured reserve for Rice, depending on how quickly he recovers.

Aug 31 2010 - Chris Cook
CB Chris Cook (left knee) is out for at least two weeks with a torn meniscus, Judd Zulgad of the Star-Tribune reports. Cook emerged as a likely starter at right cornerback with strong play throughout the preseason.

Aug 30 2010 - J. Leman
LB Jeremy Leman was waived/injured. Leman was on the Vikings' roster last season, mostly as a practice squad player.

Aug 29 2010 - Darius Reynaud
RB Darius Reynaud moved from wide receiver to running back this offseason, making the task of sticking on the roster a difficult one because of the team's numbers at the latter position. But Reynaud seems like a good bet to make it based on his ability on kickoff and punt returns. He averaged 38.3 yards on three kick returns against Seattle. Percy Harvin made the Pro Bowl team as a kick returner last season but the Vikings might want to limit the punishment Harvin takes given his issues with migraines.

Aug 29 2010 - Anthony Herrera
OG Anthony Herrera started at center against Seattle and it appears as if he might have to handle that job if John Sullivan remains sidelined by a calf injury that has limited him since early in camp. If that's the case, rookie Chris DeGeare will likely start for Herrera at right guard.

Aug 29 2010 - Chris Cook
CB Chris Cook played well on the right side against Seattle and could have put himself in position to be the starter on Sept. 9 in New Orleans. Lito Sheppard started the first game of the preseason and Asher Allen started the second. But Cook has played well all of camp and continues to look comfortable. Sheppard, meanwhile, has rarely flashed all through the preseason.

Aug 29 2010 - Asher Allen
CB Asher Allen, a third-round pick in 2009 from Georgia, likely will win the job as the nickel back now that Benny Sapp has been traded to the Miami Dolphins.

Aug 26 2010 - Greg Camarillo
WR Greg Camarillo could surprise in Minnesota. With Sidney Rice out and Percy Harvin's health concerns, Camarillo could find himself playing a vital role in the offense. Among the attributes QB Brett Favre will like -- Camarillo had 73 targets last season without one drop, according to Football Outsiders, more than any receiver in the NFL.

Aug 25 2010 - Greg Camarillo
WR Greg Camarillo was traded to the Vikings for CB Benny Sapp. The Vikings' need at wide receiver canot be overstated. Camarillo has been bothered by a groin injury recently, but is a reliable route-runner with good hands who will be a solid fit in the Vikings' West Coast offense. He sat out multiple practice sessions with a groin issue that he appeared to aggravate in the mud against Tampa Bay over the weekend.

Aug 25 2010 - Percy Harvin
WR Percy Harvin returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since going to the hospital following a severe migraine attack Thursday. His availability for Saturday's preseason game against Seattle is uncertain.

Aug 24 2010 - Sidney Rice
WR Sidney Rice gave the initial impression that he could return in eight weeks, but coach Brad Childress said he expects Rice to not even be cleared to practice for at least eight weeks. Given the length of time he could miss and the uncertainty of his return to health in November, Childress also said he hasn't ruled out putting Rice on injured reserve.

Aug 24 2010 - Javon Walker
WR Javon Walker had ligament replacement surgery in Jerusalem in 2009, the New York Times reported. Walker said he had the surgery on foreign soil because it wasn't approved in the U.S. or Canada. The surgeon, according to the paper, was Dr. Anthony Galea, the Canadian being investigated for smuggling HGH into the United States.

Aug 24 2010 - Javon Walker
WR Javon Walker officially signed a contract with the Vikings. Minnesota's depth at the position has taken a hit with Sidney Rice likely to miss eight games after hip surgery and Percy Harvin's availability uncertain due to migraine headaches that have limited his practice time.

Aug 24 2010 - Sidney Rice
WR Sidney Rice confirmed he had hip surgery in Vail, Colo. on Monday in a text message to the Star-Tribune. Rice is expected to miss the first half of the season. He traveled to the Steadman Clinic to have his hip looked at as he remained on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Rice said he was first injured in the NFC Championship Game, and that when it didn't heal on its own, he visited specialists after the team's offseason program. He opted not to have surgery at the time, but the injury had continued to not improve enough on its own. Last Tuesday, Rice told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune: "Today was the first day we did some of the cutting stuff. The straight line is not bad at all. It's cutting, bending, coming in and out of breaks. It felt pretty good. I've just got to see how my body reacts to it." Rice had said he wasn't sure if he'd be ready in time for the regular-season opener. Now the question is at what point during the season he will be ready.

Aug 24 2010 - Sidney Rice
WR Sidney Rice is expected to have surgery on his ailing hip and could miss the first half of the season, according to the Star-Tribune. Rice was in Vail, Colo. having his hip looked at by the specialists at the Steadman Clinic after his hip failed to heal. Rice has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list since the start of training camp. He has been running but he's still unable to cut, bend and move laterally. Rice visited specialists during the offseason, but opted not to have surgery at the time.

Aug 23 2010 - Javon Walker
WR Javon Walker has agreed to a deal with the Vikings, sources told ESPN, one week after he worked out for the team. Sidney Rice (hip) and Percy Harvin (migraines) have been sidelined, accelerating the team's need for a veteran receiver.

Aug 22 2010 - Greg Camarillo
WR Greg Camarillo sat out multiple practice sessions with a groin issue that he appeared to aggravate in the mud against Tampa Bay. He did not play at Jacksonville.

Aug 22 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre logged four plays in Sunday's start at San Francisco. He completed one pass -- a swing pass to Adrian Peterson on the first play of the game -- and took a hit on a blitz by LB Patrick Willis.

Aug 22 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre addressed the team on Wednesday and Thursday in an effort to assure his teammates that he's motivated and focused to play his 20th NFL season, according to a report by ESPN.

Aug 21 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre will start Sunday's game at San Francisco, but he might not play more than 10 snaps. Coach Brad Childress has been convinced to alter plans for playing time in the preseason before, but the 10-snap limit is the plan going into the game.

Aug 20 2010 - Percy Harvin
WR Percy Harvin will not travel with the Vikings for Sunday nght's game at San Francisco, but was at the team's facility on Friday. Harvin was taken to a local hospital after suffering a migraine headache while fielding a punt Thursday, and when he'll return to practice isn't clear. "He probably could've come over here and done some things today, except for the fact that they've got a couple tests that they want to finish with," coach Brad Childress said. "I don't know that we're going to solve that riddle immediately, and I don't know that there's any quick fixes. I think it's just going to be a work in progress, and even though you'd like to stick it in a box and have it be fixed this way. History has told migraines aren't that way."

Aug 20 2010 - Sidney Rice
WR Sidney Rice tested his hip again Friday but is still experiencing pain and discomfort. He told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune his availability for the regular-season opener at New Orleans is up in the air.

Aug 20 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre could earn up to $28 million this year, NFL.com Jason La Canfora reported. In addition to his $13 million base salary, the Vikings have added a signing bonus of $3 million and $4 million in incentives. He also had $8 million of his 2009 salary deferred to this year. The incentives mostly are tied to the Vikings' postseason success.

Aug 20 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre will start Sunday's game at San Francisco, coach Brad Childress announced Friday. Favre has practiced three days -- including an abbreviated period Thursday because of the Percy Harvin incident -- but said he needed to be on the field in a game situation, saying "there's no substitute for calling plays in the huddle in a real game environment, and the only way I'm going to get the speed of the game down is being in games."

Aug 20 2010 - Sage Rosenfels
QB Sage Rosenfels, who played a league-high 55 snaps in the preseason opener, and threw for 310 yards could be moved by the Vikings. --Len Pasquarelli

Aug 20 2010 - Percy Harvin
WR Percy Harvin, who collapsed on the practice field Thursday and was transported to a local Minneapolis medical center via ambulance, spent the night in the hospital. The Minnesota Vikings star was still hospitalized at deadline time Friday morning, but likely to be released at some point during the day. But even if he is given his release papers, folks close to Harvin and the team would love to get to the bottom of the chronic and debilitating migraine headaches that have beset him since he was 10 years old. Vikings officials are somewhat frustrated that no treatment has worked so far and could push for another visit to the nearby Mayo Clinic. At the least, Harvin is likely to have an extensive neurological workup in the next few days. --Len Pasquarelli

Aug 20 2010 - Tarvaris Jackson
QB Tarvaris Jackson won't request a trade now that Brett Favre is in camp. In fact, while he chafed some last year and allowed Favre's presence to be a distraction, Jackson will continue to work hard and ready himself to be the No. 1 guy in the event Favre doesn't stay healthy in his 20th season in the league. Make no mistake, Jackson is frustrated by the events of this week, and he even vented that, at age 27, he "isn't getting any younger." But the fourth-year veteran and former second-round draft pick better understands, The Sports Xchange has been told by people close to him and some Vikings officials, that the team will probably be his someday, and that quarterbacks often don't flourish until they are in their 30s. Also, Jackson has matured quite a bit. Like Troy Smith in Baltimore -- who in the spring asked for a trade but then backed off when the Ravens signed Marc Bulger -- he has come to comprehend that, if you're going to eventually play, it's much better for a quarterback to play with a good team rather than one with which he only absorbs a beating. --Len Pasquarelli

Aug 20 2010 - Percy Harvin
WR Percy Harvin returned to Vikings practice as an observer on Friday. He was released from the hospital following a scare on Thursday. He was taken from the practice field by ambulance Thursday (Aug. 19). Coach Brad Childress said he had a "migraine episode" and practice was stopped shortly thereafter. According to Childress, Harvin was fielding punts looking toward the sun and got a headache. He went into the team facility to rest and then returned to practice, but only as an observer. He vomited on the field and paramedics were called when he collapsed. Harvin was slightly disoriented but was able to speak. The team said he might have had a migraine headache attack, the Star Tribune reported.

Aug 20 2010 - Javon Walker
WR Javon Walker worked out for the Vikings on Friday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Walker and Brett Favre were teammates in Green Bay.

Aug 20 2010 - Jaymar Johnson
WR Jaymar Johnson was placed on injured reserve after clearing waivers.

Aug 19 2010 - Percy Harvin
WR Percy Harvin is resting comfortably at an area hospital, coach Brad Childress said in a statement released Thursday night. Harvin was doing fine as of early in the afternoon, teammate Bernard Berrian said on his Twitter page. "Percy's doing fine everyone. Prayers still going out though." "Percy appreciates everyone's concern. He is alert and resting comfortably, but will remain in the hospital overnight," Childress said in the statement. Harvin was taken from the practice field by ambulance this afternoon. Childress said he had a "migraine episode" and practice was stopped shortly thereafter.

Aug 19 2010 - Percy Harvin
WR Percy Harvin was taken from the practice field by ambulance. Coach Brad Childress said he had a "migraine episode" and practice was stopped shortly thereafter. According to Childress, Harvin was fielding punts looking toward the sun and got a headache. He went into the team facility to rest and then returned to practice. He vomited on the field and paramedics were called when he collapsed. Harvin was slightly disoriented but was able to speak. The team said he might have had a migraine headache attack, the Star Tribune reported.

Aug 19 2010 - Jaymar Johnson
WR Jaymar Johnson was waived/injured Wednesday (Aug. 18) with a broken thumb he suffered on a punt return Saturday night against St. Louis. Johnson, whose roster spot was needed for the return of QB Brett Favre, will be placed on injured reserve if he clears waivers.

Aug 18 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre participated in Wednesday's practice after officially deciding to return for his 20th NFL season. Favre admitted that returning to a team expected to be a Super Bowl played a major role in his decision. "I could make a case for both – playing and not playing," Favre said of his decision process. "Can I answer the bell? And what happens if it doesn't happen? I'd love to win the Super Bowl, I'd love to. But what happens if you don't? So that was the tough part." Favre said the decision was as much about the mental toll of another season as much as the physical, although he continues to seek improvement in his ankle that required surgery after the NFC Championship Game loss to New Orleans in January. Favre visited Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., last week, and was told not to expect a dramatic difference in how the ankle feels. So the question became whether Favre was willing to play through some pain. "I can't promise you that I'll make it through the season, I couldn't say that when I was 21," Favre said. "You have to play with pain, every guy in that locker room has to play with pain. Do you play with pain and still play at a high level? Or, 'the guy's tough, but he can't play.' "I want to be the guy whose tough and durable, but can play at a high level."

Aug 18 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre isn't coming back for revenge, but the team's overtime loss against the Saints in the NFC championship game motivated his decision to return. "I couldn't help but think about football all the time, but I didn't want to think about it," Favre said. "I was so close, so close to getting these guys to the Super Bowl." He practiced with the Vikings Wednesday. He said he was truly undecided for months and believes that surgery to repair his chronically sore left ankle will help, but bone spurs in the ankle will be something he has to "deal with." "I can't promise you if I'll make it through the season," he said. "I couldn't tell you that if i was 21."

Aug 18 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre is expected to practice today and will play in Sunday's game in San Francisco, according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Aug 18 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre's contract is being adjusted by the Vikings, who will add as much as $7 million, including incentives, to his $13 million base salary according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. He reported Favre will receive a raise of $3.5 million in base salary, with another $3.5 million in available incentives.

Aug 17 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre flew to Minnesota and arrived at the team's facility Tuesday afternoon. No official announcement had been made, but it appears the 40-year-old quarterback is preparing to play this season. Favre has been undecided on whether to return for a second season with the Vikings due to a slow recovery from ankle surgery he underwent for an injury suffered in the NFC Championship Game loss to New Orleans last January. And he reportedly texted a handful of teammates and team officials on Aug. 2 that he was planning to retire because the ankle wasn't as healthy as he'd hoped. Favre flew to Minnesota on Tuesday with three of his closest teammates, defensive end Jared Allen, left guard Steve Hutchinson and kicker Ryan Longwell, who traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss. to try to lure the quarterback back for another season, according to a report by the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Whether they convinced Favre to return is uncertain, but he was seen at the team's complex.

Aug 17 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre is aboard a plane likely heading to Minnesota, the NFL Network reported Tuesday. The Biloxi Sun Herald and Fox Sports' Jay Glazer said the plane would take Favre and wife Deanna to Minnesota for him to announce his return. It also appeared that the three veterans the Vikings sent to Mississippi, defensive end Jared Allen, kicker Ryan Longwell and offensive guard Steve Hutchinson, were also on board. Favre's official Web site sent an email message to media saying "Stay tuned for breaking news from the Minnesota Vikings on Brett Favre's possible return."

Aug 17 2010 - Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre hasn't been in contact with coach Brad Childress recently, he said Monday. The Star-Tribune reported Tuesday that three veterans went to Hattiesburg, Miss., to reach out to Favre. Steve Hutchinson, Ryan Longwell and Jared Allen weren't at practice Tuesday morning and the paper said they were in Hattiesburg to help convince Favre to return for his 20th NFL season.
