Sep 1 2010 - Dustin Keller TE Dustin Keller's speed and size make him a matchup nightmare and he appears to finally be developing a big-time chemistry with QB Mark Sanchez. Yes, he had only nine catches for 69 yards and no scores in the last five regular-season games, but came up big in the playoffs, catching a touchdown pass in every game. He also had a TD catch from Sanchez in the preseason. The one Achilles' heel has been his inability to block, but he is improving in that area.
Sep 1 2010 - Shonn Greene RB Shonn Greene came into his own during the 2009 playoffs with two 100-yard games and touchdown runs of 39 (against Cincinnati) and 53 yards (against San Diego), but he still must prove he can get through the pounding of an NFL season without injury problems.
Sep 1 2010 - John Conner FB John Conner is a bruiser who has knocked some of his teammates out of practice with crushing blocks. Rex Ryan already has stated he will make team and he shapes up as heir apparent to veteran Tony Richardson. Seems too stiff in his hips and shoulders to contribute as anything but a blocker.
Sep 1 2010 - Joe McKnight RB Joe McKnight is quick and elusive in the open field but Jets think he doesn't run strong enough between the tackles. Has had problems with conditioning. However, has shown breakaway potential in return game.
Sep 1 2010 - Kyle Wilson CB Kyle Wilson hasn't backed down from challenge of starting immediately with Darrelle Revis holding out. Already has displayed good coverage skills. Will move into more of a backup role, covering slot receivers, if and when Revis returns. Also might return punts if Revis comes back.
Sep 1 2010 - Antonio Cromartie CB Antonio Cromartie struggled somewhat against Washington, with two penalties, including one that negated his own interception. He also was beaten by former Jet Santana Moss on a deep route, but Moss dropped the ball.

Sep 1 2010 - Matt Slauson LG Matt Slauson has opened a sizable advantage over rookie Vladimir Ducasse in the battle to be the starting LG. Ducasse didn't help his cause by whiffing on Washington DL Kedric Golston, who then delivered a hard hit on QB Mark Sanchez.
Sep 1 2010 - Santonio Holmes WR Santonio Holmes actually was looking forward to the last preseason game.
That's because it would be his last chance to play in a game until Oct. 11, when the Jets host Minnesota on Monday night. By then, Holmes will have finished serving a four-game suspension imposed by the NFL for violating its substance-abuse policy.
"It's going to be fun," he said of the Philly game Monday after practice. "I hope I can get about 20 catches out there (and) just have some fun, knowing I'm about to exit and be gone for four games.
"I've just got to take it for what it is," the fifth-year pro said of the enforced layoff. "I can't think about it. It's only going to probably set me back if I continue to worry about it. (I have to) go home, do what I'm supposed to do and come back with the right focus. And the team will understand where I was, what I was doing, how I approached it (and) how I'm ready to take on this role" in October.
Sep 1 2010 - Calvin Pace LB Calvin Pace's foot surgery Monday was "really successful" said coach Rex Ryan who added that he hasn't given up hope of him playing in the season's second game. Pace was hurt last week when Washington backup T Stephon Heyer caught Pace's right foot with his helmet while trying to execute a cut block.
Sep 1 2010 - Mark Sanchez QB Mark Sanchez, offensive coordinator? Well, maybe for a little while Thursday, as coach Rex Ryan said he wants the second-year quarterback to call some of the plays against the Eagles in the preseason finale. Sanchez and most of the first-stringers won't play.
"I'm hoping that he sees the big picture," said Ryan, who noted that he used to let linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed do that on defense in preseason finales when Ryan was Baltimore's defensive coordinator.
"I do think you can get a lot out of it. I will say this, after that first experience that Ed (Reed) and Ray (Lewis) had, I think they had a bigger appreciation of what you do as a coach. The other thing is the next year they couldn't wait for the same opportunity."
Sep 1 2010 - Kellen Clemens QB Kellen Clemens is the winner of the battle for the No. 3 quarterback spot -- and a new, lower-paying, contract.
Clemens, in his fifth season, signed a $1.176 million tender as a restricted free agent, but admitted signing a new one-year contract Tuesday morning with the Jets in which he took a pay cut. The veteran minimum salary for a player of Clemens' NFL experience is $635,000.
"I feel good with where I'm at," said Clemens.
"The only way Kellen Clemens was not going to be on this team was if somebody was going to give him a chance to be a starting quarterback," coach Rex Ryan said. "That's the way the roster thing was. That's the truth. Well, that would be a way, obviously, that he would be cut if he doesn't take it. Absolutely, because you can't have all of your quarterbacks at X-amount of dollars."
Sep 1 2010 - Braylon Edwards WR Braylon Edwards' contract expires at the end of the season. He believes he is poised for a breakout campaign after having a whole offseason, spring and summer to immerse himself in the offense. He had to learn everything on the fly last season after being acquired in October.
Sep 1 2010 - LaDainian Tomlinson RB LaDainian Tomlinson wants to prove he's not done, and he certainly looked like he had plenty left in the preseason. The Jets believe that if they don't over-use him early, he still can have that same burst late in the season.
Aug 31 2010 - Antonio Cromartie CB Antonio Cromartie missed part of Tuesday's practice with what coach Rex Ryan dubbed a "little hip thing." Ryan downplayed the injury.
Said Ryan: "He missed two plays in team (drills). I figured I'd float that out there. That'll be big: 'Now they need Revis more than ever.'"
Cromartie had hip soreness during OTAs and is two years removed from a hip fracture with the Chargers.

Coach Rex Ryan indicated Conner is pushing veteran Tony Richardson for the starting job.
Aug 12 2010 - Darrelle Revis CB Darrelle Revis and the Jets have agreed, at least for now, to keep negotiations toward a contract extension out of the media. In recent days, the two sides have sparred through comments in the press.
Revis' agents, Neil Schwartz and Jon Feinsod, released a statement today saying "Both parties have had conversations to clear the air and will continue to negotiate with the hopes of reaching an agreement. From this point forward, all discussions regarding these negotiations will remain confidential."
Aug 11 2010 - Darrelle Revis CB Darrelle Revis, schedule to make $1 million in 2010, is seeking a contract worth around $160 million with $30 million in guarantees, the Daily News reported. The Jets, the paper said, offered a 10-year, $120 million deal.
Aug 11 2010 - Darrelle Revis CB Darrelle Revis' holdout reached 11 days, and clearly the two sides are becoming entangled in the holdout drama.
Coach Rex Ryan responded to charges by Revis' representatives that owner Woody Johnson was a "blatant liar" by inviting Revis and "anybody he wants" to meet with management and the entire team, including players, to pound out a resolution to the contract rift.
"This is what I would like to have happen," said Ryan, whose proposed plan was scripted. "Everybody put their cards on the table. Have Darrelle come here with anybody he wants. We'll have Mr. Johnson here ... We'll call off practice. We'll have our whole team there to meet.
"That way, there's no he-said, she-said. Let's work it that way. Maybe that's how we'll get a solution. Everybody wants a solution. Let's figure out a way to do it. Maybe this is the way."
Agent Neil Schwartz responded quickly and said "If the Jets want to set up a meeting, they know how to reach me."
Aug 11 2010 - Kellen Clemens QB Kellen Clemens won't be the Jets' primary backup to Mark Sanchez. That job belongs to Mark Brunell, meaning Clemens and Kevin O'Connell are competing for a roster spot.

Aug 11 2010 - Mark Brunell QB Mark Brunell is now "a lock" to be the Jets' No. 2 quarterback, according to coach Rex Ryan. Kellen Clemens and Kevin O'Connell will compete for the third spot.

Aug 11 2010 - Kyle Wilson CB Kyle Wilson is competing with Dwight Lowery for the starting cornerback job currently available with Darrelle Revis holding out. Lowery recently told secondary coach Dennis Thurman to give Wilson more reps.
"The more he can get out there and be exposed to that kind of stuff, the better his progression is going to be," Lowery said.
Lowery, however, would be in contention for the job he's pushing Wilson for, an unselfish act which pleasantly surprised coach Rex Ryan.
Aug 11 2010 - Darrelle Revis CB Darrelle Revis' representatives told the N.Y. Daily News that owner Woody Johnson's story that he wasn't wanted at a face-to-face meeting Friday was a "blantant lie."
Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum said they offered to have Johnson present when the two sides met at Roscoe's Diner in Roscoe, N.Y., last week. Agents Neil Schwartz and Jon Feinsod deny turning down that meeting.
"Whoever said that is a blatant liar. I will meet with Woody any time, any place, anywhere. It will be my pleasure. Why wouldn't I want Woody Johnson at the meeting?"
Johnson told ESPN 1050 the gap between the two sides has become insurmountable.
Revis, who reportedly wants to become the highest-paid cornerback in the league, has yet to report to Jets training camp. He is slated to make $1 million this season. The Jets said Tuesday "we're not trading him" while Revis' camp said the Jets have "never given us a proposal with one dollar in signing bonus or one dollar in fully guaranteed money."
Revis is being fined $16,523 for each day he misses.
Aug 11 2010 - Jason Taylor LB Jason Taylor was the target of verbal, if playful, barbs from Dolphins' LB Channing Crowder, who talked trash through the media with Jets coach Rex Ryan last year.
In the Palm Beach Post, Crowder, who said he talks to his former teammate Taylor frequently and considers him a friend, said: "He's a real pretty boy. He had makeup with 'Dancing with the Stars' and all that, so he might put on makeup," Crowder said. "He's gonna perform. Trust me. You can mark that. JT is not going to be himself.
"He's gonna perform for the cameras, 'cause he's a showman. That's what I give him a hard time about -- he's going to be as clean as he can, he's gonna have a freshly-shaved head, 'cause the camera is around and he's very womanly. .. There's a lot of pretty boy football players. JT's graceful. He's a very graceful guy. I told him I'm gonna make fun of him, so he knows it's coming. But yeah, he is a very pretty, womanly football player."
Aug 10 2010 - Darrelle Revis CB Darrelle Revis remained a holdout Tuesday. Revis' agents presented Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum with a written contract proposal Friday night, but Tannenbaum said the sides remain unable to "find something that makes sense for both sides. We really have no progress." Revis, who reportedly wants to become the highest-paid cornerback in the league, has yet to report to Jets training camp.
"We're going to prepare like he's not going to be here," coach Rex Ryan said before news of the contract offer was leaked Monday. "If he comes through the door, that's fine. Somebody will kiss him on the lips, probably. It doesn't matter. We're getting this team ready. The guys that are here, we're getting ready."
Revis is being fined $16,523 for each day he misses.
"We have a great collection of individual talent," Ryan said Tuesday. "These guys will play great as a team. That's what we'll do. Obviously, Revis is a tremendous player. Ray Lewis, a tremendous player. Ed Reed, tremendous player. Kris Jenkins, too. But it's about the unit, and we've been selling that from the day we walked on here. ... We can get it done. We're not afraid of anybody."

"We're going to prepare like he's not going to be here," coach Rex Ryan said before news of the contract offer was leaked Monday. "If he comes through the door, that's fine.
