Shanahan said he wasn't aware of that diagnosis.
"If you guys want to talk about football, we'll talk about football," Shanahan said. "But to keep on talking about things outside of football to me is completely ridiculous. I did have a conversation with him. If you want to talk about football, we'll talk about football."

Aug 22 2010 - Malcolm Kelly WR Malcolm Kelly's chiseled 6-foot-4, 226-pound body is the best of any of the 10 men fighting to be a Redskins receiver this season. However, Kelly's knee betrayed him as a rookie in 2008, limiting the second-round draft pick to five games. Now, Kelly's ailing hamstring might cost him his roster spot. The former Oklahoma star has been out four weeks and missed the first two preseason games because of the injury.
"He can't practice therefore he can't show me anything," said coach Mike Shanahan. "He's doing everything he can with his treatment to get that hamstring better and that's all he can do. What he doesn't want to do is rush himself back too quick and he sets himself back to where he can't practice the rest of camp."
Kelly knows he's playing with fire by not being on the field since Shanahan and the other coaches didn't draft him and don't know him well.
"It is frustrating, especially with a new coaching staff," Kelly said. "Watching everybody else play eats you up on the inside, but you've got to be smart. You don't want to hurt yourself seriously. I feel (better), but it's not where I want it to be yet."

"I think I'm underestimated a lot," said Banks, who still has an uphill battle to win a job. "I think a lot of people look over me because of my size. So I just go out there and prove a point and turn heads."
Banks had muffed Brian Moorman's immediately previous punt so he said that he felt he had to do something to get back in the coaches' good graces. But Mike Shanahan disagreed.
"I can't say that (the touchdown) surprised me at all with the way he has played, not necessarily as a returner but as a wide receiver [in practice]," Shanahan said. "He consistently makes plays. He has great speed, cutting ability and an excellent set of hands. It's nice to see him go out there and make a play or a couple of plays today. That first (24-yard) punt return was pretty good."
