Sep 1 2010 - Arthur Moats MLB Arthur Moats, a sixth-round pick, has been one of tne of the pleasant surprises of camp. The Buck Buchanan Award winner from James Madison had a team-best 18 tackles heading into the team's final preseason game. He has a nose for the ball and will push for backup time behind Paul Posluszny while playing special teams.
Sep 1 2010 - Alex Carrington DE Alex Carrington, with four tackles and no sacks through three preseason games, the Sun Belt Conference sack leader in 2009 hasn't made a big impact yet. But he'll make the roster and be used when needed in a rotation of players up front.
Sep 1 2010 - Torell Troup NT Torell Troup had a stellar training camp, making all kinds of plays in practice while plugging the middle of Buffalo's new 3-4. He'll earn major playing time in a rotation with veteran Kyle Williams.
Sep 1 2010 - C.J. Spiller RB C.J. Spiller, once considered a luxury pick on a team that had two good running backs, he's now emerged as the top drawing card. Taking advantage of injuries to Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch, Spiller scored three TDs in preseason wins over the Colts and Bengals and awed onlookers with his stop-on-a-dime moves and speed. He even made a case for being the team's starter.
Sep 1 2010 - Arthur Moats LB Arthur Moats, a sixth-round pick out of James Madison, is making a strong push to earn a roster spot. He has a team-high 18 tackles, including 12 solo stops and a forced fumble. Buffalo's special teams are also in need of replenishing.
Sep 1 2010 - Cornell Green OT Cornell Green is nursing an undisclosed injury and will be a game-time decision for the Lions game.
Sep 1 2010 - Fred Jackson RB Fred Jackson, who suffered a broken hand in the preseason opener at Washington, is back practicing with a special brace but remains a long-shot to start the season opener Sept. 12 against Miami. Ball protection and catching hard passes are still a concern.
Sep 1 2010 - Trent Edwards QB Trent Edwards, who was caught in the middle of a dysfunctional coaching situation a year ago when he lost his job to Ryan Fitzpatrick, earned plaudits from former teammate Terrell Owens.
"I see a different demeanor in Trent, he looks very comfortable and poised back there and he has a number of playmakers to make him feel even more comfortable," T.O. said after last week's preseason game. "When you've got a back like C.J. Spiller, I mean, he's going to make his job easier. Trent can assess the matchups (he'll get) and he can deliver the ball where it needs to be."
Sep 1 2010 - Marcus Stroud DE Marcus Stroud is among several Bills growing mustaches for good luck. "The Mustache Gang, we're here," Stroud said. "If we can keep winning, the Mustache Gang isn't going anywhere. 'Stache for life baby.'"
Sep 1 2010 - Ed Wang OT Ed Wang, who underwent thumb surgery earlier in camp, is working his way back but is still a ways away from playing. "No, we're not trying to get him ready," coach Chan Gailey said about Wang's chances of suiting up against the Detroit Lions. "He doesn't have a way to grip yet, not that offensive linemen ever hold. But he has no way to grip." Wang is expected to be carried on the 53-man roster. Rosters must be set on Saturday.
Sep 1 2010 - Roscoe Parrish WR Roscoe Parrish has found new life under coach Chan Gailey. One of the NFL's all-time leading punt returns, Parrish was an afterthought as a wide receiver under previous coaches Mike Mularkey and Dick Jauron. He was even benched by Jauron last year after muffing a punt that cost Buffalo a game against Cleveland. Despite his rare speed and good hands, Parrish wound up with just three catches for 34 yards. This summer, Parrish has shined working out of the slot and has seven catches for 82 yards and a TD. "In this profession, you never get down on yourself," Parrish said. "Last year was tough and I had to handle myself like a professional and have a good attitude. You never know what tomorrow will bring." It brought Gailey, one of the NFL's most successful offensive coordinators who knows what speed can do."
Sep 1 2010 - Marshawn Lynch RB Marshawn Lynch, who missed two preseason games with an ankle injury, was scheduled to see action against Detroit on Sept. 2. Lynch, who lost his starting job to Fred Jackson a year ago, is now also battling dynamic rookie C.J. Spiller for playing time. "Great, great," Lynch said when asked what he thought of Spiller's play, which included an electrifying 20-yard TD run against the Bengals last weekend. "The young guy came in and has been a big help. Three games, three touchdowns. He's doing pretty good." The Bills plan a three-headed attack at running back but due to injuries to Jackson and Lynch this summer, nobody is certain how it will play itself out. Jackson is practicing but remains a long-shot to be ready for the season opener Sept. 12 vs. Miami.

Aug 31 2010 - Fred Jackson RB Fred Jackson (hand) was back at practice but is still limited by a brace on his left hand, which is surrounded by a protective cast.
"Fred did ok. He's rusty," coach Chan Gailey said. "He hasn't done much of anything and has a hard time handling the ball completely, but he moved around pretty good. He's in good shape still. He takes care of himself."
Jackson said he caught passes but wouldn't be able to play with his hand wrapped.
Aug 31 2010 - Marshawn Lynch RB Marshawn Lynch took several reps in Tuesday's practice and looked good, coach Chan Gailey said. Lynch has been out with an ankle injury.
"Marshawn took quite a few reps out there today and looked good. It didn't look like there was any residual effect. So, I'm looking forward to watching him Thursday night," Gailey said.

Aug 29 2010 - Jairus Byrd FS Jairus Byrd remains sidelined following his latest groin surgery. The team is still hopeful he can be ready for the regular season opener Sept. 12 against Miami. Veteran George Wilson has been playing in his place.

Aug 29 2010 - Marcus Easley WR Marcus Easley, a fourth-round pick out of Connecticut who had a shot at the team's No. 2 receiving job, was placed on injured reserve after undergoing left knee surgery. The move ends his season but the coaching staff felt it wise to allow him to recover on his own time and be ready for 2011.

Aug 29 2010 - Trent Edwards QB Trent Edwards has all but officially locked up the starting quarterback job after a 13-of-17, 153-yard, no-turnover game against Cincinnati Saturday night. Edwards had virtually no slipups in regaining the job he lost last season to Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Aug 29 2010 - Aaron Maybin LB Aaron Maybin, the team's first-round pick in 2009 who is making the switch from end to outside linebacker in the 3-4, finished with two sacks against the Bengals playing with backups. Buffalo's new coaches are working with Maybin on developing a repertoire of pass-rush moves, rather than him just relying on speed and athleticism, which is what he got by on at Penn State. "Look at any of the great pass rushers in the game and they have a whole repertoire of moves they go to," Maybin said. "Some guys do two or three things well and that wins for them. I've always actually been a good bull-rusher, I just never really had to do it. So, working on that, and seeing it in game competition, is definitely helping out a lot."
Aug 29 2010 - Roscoe Parrish WR Roscoe Parrish has heard the lip service before about being a major part of Buffalo's offense. But maybe new coach Chan Gailey really means it when he says "He's a big weapon for this football team." In Saturday's preseason win over the Bengals, Parrish certainly was that as he caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. Parrish caught three passes for 34 yards all last season as he wound up benched by former coach Dick Jauron after he muffed a punt that cost Buffalo a game. "Chan Gailey is a good offensive-minded coach and he likes to get the ball in the playmakers' hands," Parrish said. "I've heard it all before but that's in the past. Right now is right now and I just have to control my own destiny and that's to take advantage of the opportunities that come my way."
Aug 26 2010 - James Hardy WR James Hardy is back practicing and is expected to play Saturday. "it's not fair to throw him out there a lot with all he's missed. "We'll play him. How much? |
Aug 23 2010 - John Paul Foschi TE J.P. Foschi signed with the Bills. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Now that injury has resurfaced, threatening to sideline the team's interception leader past the regular season opener on Sept. 12 vs. Miami. Byrd underwent surgery last week on his bothersome groin, the third procedure he's undergone in 13 months. "It looks like he's going to be out for a while," coach Chan Gailey said. "We're hoping first game, but it may be not." George Wilson has moved into Byrd's starting free safety spot.

Aug 22 2010 - Reggie Torbor LB Reggie Torbor, 29, who played a backup role in Miami the past two seasons, was on track to winning a starting job with the Bills until suffering an undisclosed injury in last week's preseason win over Indianapolis. Torbor, who was No. 1 on the depth chart at weak outside linebacker ahead of Aaron Maybin, Buffalo's 2009 first-round pick, will miss at least three weeks, coach Chan Gailey said. That makes his status for the regular season opener Sept. 12 against Miami questionable.
Aug 22 2010 - Fred Jackson RB Jackson is shooting to return for the Sept. 12 regular-season opener against Miami. Until then, Buffalo's offensive thinkers are working on mostly one-back looks. |
Aug 22 2010 - Marshawn Lynch RB Marshawn Lynch could return to action Saturday when the Bills host the Cincinnati Bengals at Ralph Wilson Stadium in their third exhibition outing. Lynch injured his ankle in a loss to Washington on Aug. 13 and sat out last week's 34-21 victory over Indianapolis in Toronto. But Lynch is back running and working on gaining more confidence in his hard cuts. If he continues to progress and suffers no setbacks during the week, Lynch could be in the lineup against the Bengals
Aug 20 2010 - Shawn Nelson TE Shawn Nelson was suspended four games for a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. A fourth-round pick in 2009, Nelson started 12 games last season.
Nelson will miss games against all three AFC East opponents and the Packers.
Aug 19 2010 - David Nelson WR David Nelson could be back within a week, coach Chan Gailey said. Nelson's medical report was surprisingly positive. He was carted off the field after he was injured in a red zone drill and trainers stabilized his lower leg and foot on Tuesday.

Aug 17 2010 - Jonathan Stupar TE Jonathan Stupar has had a solid camp, coach Chan Gailey said.
"Stupar is a very solid, consistent football player," Gailey said. "He can't go in there and knock people off the ball, he can't run down the field and run a 4.5 (40 yd dash), but he's a good route runner, he's an intelligent player, he fights every snap, he's more than an adequate blocker, he's done a good job so far. He's been one of the pleasant surprises in camp."
Aug 17 2010 - Trent Edwards QB Trent Edwards hasn't nailed down the starting job in Buffalo. No player has.
"All jobs are still open," coach Chan Gailey said. "There's no job that's locked in right now. There're some guys that are way ahead and some guys that are a little bit ahead. I'm not going to talk about specific positions right now, but all the jobs are open."
