In early January 2023, Lane entered the transfer portal and moved from Middle Tennessee State to Virginia Tech for the 2023 season.

2022 (jr): Played in 11 games and caught 69 passes for 940 yards (13.6 avg.) and five TDs...Had 130 yards on four catches (32.5 avg.) in 45-31 win over Miami (9/24)...Posted season-high 179 yards on 10 grabs in loss to UTSA (9/30)...Hauled in seven passes for 149 yards vs. UTEP (10/29) in 24-13 win...Helped lead Middle Tennessee State to a 25-23 victory over San Diego State in 2022 Hawai'i Bowl (12/24), where he totaled 111 receiving yards and a TD catch...Also recorded 18 punt returns for 152 yards on the season.
