Week 0: DNP

 OVERVIEW

At 6 feet, one quarter inch tall and 295 pounds, Wingo is showing more each week that despite his measurements he can make big plays. Wingo is persistent and wears on blockers with his high-rev engine. Rated as only a 3-star recruit by ESPN and 247 Sports, Wingo first went to Missouri.

In 2021 as a freshman Wingo saw action in 12 games and played a total of 460 snaps for Missouri. He recorded 21 tackles, 6 assists, while adding 15 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 14 total pressures, which included 10 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and 2 sacks on the season.

He transferred to LSU where as a sophomore for the Tigers in 2022 Wingo played 13 games and took part in 777 snaps, recorded 27 tackles, 11 assists and 18 stops. As a pass rusher, he raked up 23 total pressures, and 19 QB hurries, one QB hit, and 3 sacks during the year.

STRENGTHS:

Gets penetration from a three technique thanks to a non-stope motor, good use of hands and a dizzying, tight spin move. Excellent balance and hard to put on the ground. Can be a crafty edge player who is very good against the run. Wingo sets the edge and effectively wards off blocks with a strong core, powerful arms/hands and instinctive use of leverage. Watch for strong punch at snap and how he works off that.

WEAKNESSES:

Sometimes struggles to disengage and unless he develops a more impressive array of techniques he may not be on the field on third-and-long. While he’s powerfully built, his short arms allow blockers to get into his body

FRANKLY: Impressive motor, but lacks overall horsepower. Needs to learn more tricks to overcome lack of length and the natural leverage that comes with it.
