Deadrin Senat

DT · South Florida
A three-year starter at South Florida, Senat had several of the country’s best programs knocking on his door in high school, but he chose South Florida and lived up to the high expectations as one of the team’s best defensive players the last three years. While shorter in stature, his mass is well distributed and he carries it well, but his lack of ideal length shows at times, hurting his ability to shed blocks. Senat doesn’t have the natural burst to penetrate on a consistent basis, causing him to idle at the line of scrimmage. However, he is stout at the point of attack to two-gap or handle multiple blockers, displaying a reliable motor. BACKGROUND Worried about going down the wrong path, Senat started playing football as a freshman in high school. The death of his mother (Judy), who passed away as a result of complications from a spider bite, is his driving motivation to reach his potential on and off the field. Senat also lost his father (Guy) in 2015 from cancer. After redshirting in 2013, he started two games as a redshirt freshman and posted 18 tackles. Senat became a full-time starter as a sophomore (10 starts) and recorded 46 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble. He started 12 games as a junior in 2016 and finished with 49 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack and one forced fumble, earning Second Team All-AAC honors. Senat started every game as a senior and had his best season in 2017, finishing with 66 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks to earn First Team All-AAC honors.

in our view

Senat was a pleasant surprise while studying his tape. He has dominant flashes when he taps into his power, displaying the hand strength and agility to be a capable nose tackle in the NFL.

strengths

Thickly-put-together. Power-packed frame with proportionate strength throughout. Low center of gravity, dropping his hips and using his core strength to leverage gaps. Powerful upper body with the strong hands to snatch and dispose of blockers. Takes on double-teams with a stout anchor, clogging inside run lanes. Lateral quickness to slant through gaps with flexible joints. Rangy big man with pursuit speed to make plays outside the hashes. Accustomed to playing a high volume of snaps. Good-natured, accountable and beloved within the USF and his hometown communities. Graduated with a degree in interdisciplinary social science (Aug. 2017). Outstanding senior production with 59 tackles (7.4 per game) over the final eight games of his final season. – Dane Brugler 1/29/2018

compares to

Javon Hargrave, Pittsburgh Steelers – Both are shorter and squatty, but also the light feet, natural leverage and brute power to handle point of attack duties.

weaknesses

Stocky and lacks ideal length and height by NFL standards. Late to detach from blockers and make plays in the hole. Inconsistent shed timing. Needs to better fend off the punch of blockers and protect his breast plate. Average initial burst and won’t catch blockers off-balance with quickness alone. Aggressive competitor, but needs to lower his strike zone and stay under control – missed six quarters in the first two games of 2017 due to targeting ejections. Limited potential as a pass rusher. – Dane Brugler 1/29/2018
