Chase Lyman

WR · California
Positives...For a player of his size, he appears lighter than he actually is...He has good chest and shoulder muscle definition, small waist, good bubble, high cut, thick thighs and calves...Has very active hands to beat the jam...Fluid route runner who shows quickness in and out of his cuts...Has the ability to find the open area and knows where the pursuit is coming...Reliable underneath pass catcher who catches with his hands outside the body's frame...Shows good concentration down field combating for the ball in a crowd...Shows the ability to adjust to the ball in the air and has the leaping ability to out-rebound most defensive backs on the high balls...Shows intent on contact as a blocker and does a good job cut blocking in the open. Negatives...Medical risk, as he has undergone six surgical procedures and missed 26 games due to injuries during his career...Has good timed speed, but like most big receiver as, he struggles a bit to stay low in his pads and gets too high and erect in his release... Lacks a sudden burst off the ball and while he can turn on his breaks, he has to gather before reaching top speed...Not a burner who will consistently stretch the field, but has the ability to track and locate the ball...Relies more on juking and double moves to gain separation after the catch, lacking the second gear to race by and elude defenders.

oregon state...torched touted cornerback brandon browner for two touchdown catches and all-pac 10 cornerback aric williams for another, tying a school game-record with three touchdown catches, all coming in the first quarter, as he amassed a career-high 176 yards on five receptions and 13 yards on a reverse...after cal's marshawn lynch took the game's opening kickoff back for 69 yards, aaron rodgers lobbed an 11-yard scoring strike to lyman right in front of browner...browner then bit on a handoff to tailback terrell williams, leaving lyman wide open as williams threw an option pass to chase for a 79-yard touchdown...just before the first quarter ended, rodgers would pump fake left and throw a perfect pass over the arms of aric williams into chase's hands for a 25-yard score.

Southern California...Caught two passes for 28 yards before leaving the game with a torn ligament in his left knee.

air force...leaped over strong safety dennis poland to haul down a 79-yard touchdown toss from qb aaron rodgers and gained 99 yards on three catches.

New Mexico...Out-battled safety Dominique Jacobs for a 25-yard scoring toss and gained 111 yards on four receptions.

colorado state...made a pair of catches for 21 yards.

Washington...Collected 65 yards on three receptions.

Note: Has had six surgical procedures since enrolling at California...Battled through a myriad of injuries (ankle, groin, hamstring, hip, and appendicitis) during his career. 2000: Suffered a contusion on the back of his left knee during fall camp. 2001: Missed the season opener vs. Illinois after undergoing an appendectomy during August camp. 2002: Bothered by ankle and knee sprains during spring drills...Dislocated a finger and two days later, tore his hamstring away from the bone in fall camp...Underwent surgery and was granted a medical hardship. 2003: Held out of spring drills to continue recovering from hamstring surgery. 2004: Torn a ligament in his left knee vs. Southern California, undergoing surgery (10/12).
