Baron Batch

KR, RB · Texas Tech

positives

Quick, sneaky running back who can make defenders miss at all levels of the field. Has loads of experience and has been a contributing factor in the Texas Tech offense since his freshman year. Is quicker than he is fast, but flashes the ability to get to the edge and turn the corner on occasion. Is an excellent receiver out of the backfield after time logged in Mike Leach's pass-happy system. Has soft hands and runs smart, tight routes with no wasted motion. Can line up in the slot when needed. Is dangerous as a one-cut runner and shows adequate first-step burst. Is a willing pass blocker who uses small frame to his advantage when gaining leverage on rushers as a personal protector.

negatives

Lacks elite speed to consistently threaten the edge. Will get run down from the backside behind the line. Hesitates through the hole and often allows defenders the recovery time necessary to bottle him up in the backfield. Does not show great pad level through the line and fails to shrink himself as a target or protect his body. Takes big hits and does not keep his legs churning after first contact. Will go down by shoestring hits too often. Can be mauled and bowled over by bigger pass rushers when trying to block. Achilles and other injuries have robbed him of his former elite speed, but he still tries to outrun defenders too often instead of following his blocks.
