He was a four-year starter for Coach Al Hughes at Lovejoy High School. He led his high school squad in tackles for three seasons. He played both tailback and defensive tackle in his senior season. He made 105 tackles and racked up 12 sacks. Jones first played as a linebacker, but moved to defensive end as a sophomore. He split time between linebacker and defensive end as a junior before moving to defensive tackle as a senior. He rushed for a junior high school record of more than 2,000 yards in the seventh and eighth grades before moving to defense in the ninth grade. He chose Arkansas over Mississippi State, Kentucky, Troy, Auburn and Western Michigan.

40-yard dash: 4.7. His father was a football letterman at Valdosta State in 1976. He is the son of Ricky and Jessica Jones and Barbara Jones.
