Matt Skura

OG, C · Duke
After redshirting in 2011, Skura was a reserve guard in 2012 as a redshirt freshman. He moved to center as a sophomore in 2013 and started all 14 games. He started 13 games at center as a junior in 2014, earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. Skura was tabbed as a First Team All-ACC center as a senior in 2015, starting all 13 games for the Blue Devils.

in our view

Skura plays with finesse and lacks the desired power traits to match the defenders opposite him, but he was consistently able to win at the college level due to his anticipation, smarts and competitive motor. Although his limitations will make it tough for him to start at the next level, Skura is a sticky blocker with the intangibles and mental approach that will keep him on an NFL roster.

strengths

Well-conditioned, moldable frame with adequate length. Nimble foot athlete for his size and moves well laterally. Leans at the waist, but stays balanced with his feet underneath him. Decisive mover and always has a plan. Assignment-sound with proper upper and lower body fundamentals.

quick-minded and intelligent, reading the defense and understanding play indicators. keeps his head on a swivel to pick up extra rushers. strong communicator and lack of preparation is never an issue. has a nasty streak to him and stays busy. senior captain and highly respected by his coaches and teammates. durable and started all 40 games the past three seasons.

WEAKNESSES

leaner than ideal and needs to develop his bulk. displays functional strength, but not the overwhelming power to generate consistent movement or recover once rushers attack his shoulder. waist bender and lacks natural lower-body flexibility, allowing his pads to rise. struggles to re-anchor once knocked on his heels and can be trampled by bull rushers.

Bad habit of lowering his eye level and not bringing his feet, losing body position. Needs to load more ammo into his hands and improve his punch timing. Lacks starting experience at other positions beside center.
