Brown Jr. is one of 85 players nationwide on this year's watch list and just one of six from the American Athletic Conference.
The Prichard, Ala. native is coming off a career-best season in which he rushed for 948 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 120 receiving yards and 475 kick return yards for a total of 1,543 all-purpose yards.
Brown Jr. was a part of UAB's lethal 1-2 punch at running back last season as he and DeWayne McBride helped UAB set a new school record for total rushing yards (3,063). UAB's average of 235.6 rushing yards per game ranked eighth nationally in 2022.
Entering his final year as a Blazer, Brown Jr. has 2,275 career rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, to go along with 3,476 all-purpose yards. If Brown Jr. can rush for 725 yards this year, he would join Spencer Brown and DeWayne McBride as the only Blazers in school history to surpass 3,000 career rushing yards.
Additionally, Brown Jr. needs 1,194 all-purpose yards to become the school record holder in that category.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Nov. 13, 2023, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled Nov. 28, 2023. The winners of the 87th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 7, 2023. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards in March 2024.
The Blazers began fall camp this morning and are just 31 days from opening their inaugural season as a member of the American Athletic Conference on Aug. 31 at Protective Stadium against North Carolina A&T.
Season tickets for the 2023 UAB Football season are available starting as low as $99. Season ticket packages provide the most affordable way to catch the Blazers in action during all six home games. Fans may request more information here or by calling the UAB Athletics Ticket Office at (205) 975-UAB1.
