Football Game Themes Unveiled for Inaugural Big 12 Season

HOUSTON – With 75 days until the Houston Football season opener, University of Houston Athletics has announced its single-game themes for the upcoming season which features seven on-campus home contests – the program's most in eight seasons. The season begins at 6 p.m., Sept. 2, when the Cougars welcome UTSA for "Celebrate Houston." Houston and TCU kick off the Big 12 Conference season when the teams tangle at 7 p.m., Sept. 16, as part of "Big 12 Celebration" night presented by Coca-Cola at TDECU Stadium. Join the University of Houston for Family Weekend when the Cougars face area foe Sam Houston at 6 p.m., Sept. 23. After a visit to Texas Tech for the the Cougars' first Big 12 road matchup, Houston returns home Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. to welcome West Virginia as part of "Hispanic Heritage" night. The matchup will also serve as the program's annual "Black Out" game. Houston's first visit from Texas in two decades will feature "Heroes Night" presented by TDECU as the Cougars and their fans honor military and first responders throughout the game. Be part of one of the most exciting weeks and games of the season on Nov. 11 when Houston hosts Cincinnati for Homecoming presented by UHAA. The Cougars will honor their senior class with a special pregame recognition prior to the program's home regular season finale on Nov. 18 against Oklahoma State presented by ICON. Houston, which recently announced it has set a TDECU Stadium record with 23,500 season tickets, heads into 2023 looking to build on 20 combined wins, including a pair of bowl victories, over the last two seasons. Five Cougar student-athletes were recognized on Athlon Sports' 2023 All-Big 12 Team led by sophomore wide receiver Matthew Golden who earned first team honors.
