Kansas football’s Joe Krause suspended from Jayhawks program after July arrest

LAWRENCE — Kansas football opened the month of August on Tuesday with the start of fall camp, but did so without redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Joe Krause.
Jayhawks head coach Lance Leipold said Krause has been suspended from the team. A KU Athletics spokesperson added that Krause has been suspended from the university, as well. And it all comes after Krause was arrested in July and charged with allegedly committing aggravated criminal threat.
“Joe is suspended right now from the program,” Leipold said, “and that’s really all I know and can tell you from our perspective.”
Krause’s next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 9, according to a Douglas County District Court official. He is not currently listed as an inmate, as a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office public information officer said last week Krause posted his $10,000 bail.
According to Douglas County District court records, the charging document stated Krause allegedly “did unlawfully, feloniously, and with the intent to place another in fear, or to cause the evacuation, lock down or disruption in regular, ongoing activities of any building, communicate a threat to commit violence, and a public, commercial, or industrial building, place of assembly, or facility of transportation, to-wit: KU football facilities, was evacuated, locked down, or disrupted as to regular, ongoing activities as a result of the threat, a severity level 5 person felony.”
The charging document also lists a potential penalty range, “From a minimum of 31 months to a maximum of 136 months in prison and/or a fine of up to $300,000 and 24 months of post-release supervision.”
