What Arizona State players, coaches are saying about the bowl ban for 2023

Arizona Republic
Arizona State announced they will be imposing a one-year bowl ban on their football program as a result of an investigation into allegations of improper recruiting dating back to 2020. The following are quotes from head coach Kenny Dillingham and players on Sunday after they had been informed of the ban.
"It is what it is. We can’t control it but not one person in the country feels bad for us. Matter of fact more people are happy about it because people love to see other people down. People feed off it. It’s the world we live in and if we allow people to feed off this circumstance for us then that’s on us. And it’s my job to try and get our team and rally our team behind each other to go compete and go work at the highest level. This isn’t the highs and lows I was expecting but still is a low and we need everybody to do this together and our team needs everybody out there to support them so they know that what they’re doing isn’t all for naught."
—ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham
"There’s a little bit of disappointment but its out of our control. When the leadership group found out this morning we made sure we kept the spirits up for the rest of the team because there are dudes that came here from all across the country that wanted to be conference champions. We’re still striving for that and it’s still reachable so its not changing our game plan very much. We’re going to continue to grind every single day. We have an opportunity to ruin other peoples’ season so we’re going to make the most of it."
—Offensive lineman Joey Ramos
"At the end of the day we still want to go 12-0 so we can be that team everyone is talking about, like `Dang if only they had gotten that chance.' It's going to suck when we get to that point but there's no reason to be sad. I was talking to DJ and he said there's no reason to be sad, be sad in November when you win eight or nine or 10 games and then you can't go anywhere. So that's the mentality we're carrying right now. Thursday we have a game. "
—Junior tight end Jalin Conyers
"As leaders if we continue to come out here and show these guys what if is possible, the sky's the limit. Me being in that leadership role I feel like I have to come out here and, no matter what, just put my best foot forward and show these guys what's up. Energy is definitely contagious. I was able to feel everyone's mood a little bit but me personally, I just kept my head down in a good way. Any time coach put me out there to do a drill or out there to run I make sure I went hard. I tried to tell guys go out there, make a play and feel good. That's all today was. It was a mental day. You could tell the coaches were feeling it too."
—Senior safety Chris Edmonds
"Obviously everybody's upset about it. That's something you aspire to. That's everybody's preseason goal is to win a championship and get to a bowl game but ultimately our goal every week is to win every game we play. I'm just worried about Southern Utah. That's where we shifted our focus. No one's going to feel bad for us. We're not going to feel bad for us. We have to get ready to play football." You can take a second to be upset about it but the season still has to get played and these teams are still on our schedule so we're just trying to win football games."
—Junior defensive back Jordan Clark
"I've never been able to play in the postseason in my college career so I was looking forward to it and the team we were building right now, the culture we were building and I was thinking we could make a run this year but we still have 12 games, 12 winnable games and we want to win all of those games. For the seniors it's our last year, we still want to go out with a bang and set the young guys up for next year, give them momentum so they can go win a Big 12 championship. That's my main focus, like give it all for the young guys."
