Oregon State's quarterback situation remains murky heading into Saturday night's matchup against visiting Southern Utah. Beavers starting quarterback Jake Luton was knocked out of last week's season-opening loss to Ohio State due to concussion-like symptoms, but he did practice Wednesday and Thursday. Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith told reporters he will consult with a medical team before deciding on whether Luton or Conor Blount gets the nod in Saturday's matchup. "Got to talk to the docs first. Do feel confident in whoever we put out there that they can make some plays," said Smith, per the Oregonian. Luton was injured on the first series in the 77-31 drubbing by Ohio State. Blount came on and finished the first half but was replaced by Jack Colletto in the second half. Blount completed 13 of 19 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Luton made four starts in 2017, completing 83 of 135 passes for 853 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions before his season ended due to a spine injury. As a freshman, he appeared in six games for Idaho, throwing for 403 yards on 51-of-80 passing with one TD and four interceptions. Blount appeared in three games as a freshman in 2015, completing 54.3 percent (19 of 35) of his passes while getting picked off twice.
