NFL Team Report - Los Angeles Chargers
Chargers glad to be home after long road trip Is it the really the Los Angeles Chargers settling in for some home cooking when facing the Denver Broncos on Sunday? Sure enough the Chargers at back at the StubHub Center and everyone knew at some point they would return. That to do so riding a six-game winning streak and a big dose of momentum that can't be denied. The Chargers (7-2) went more than 40 days without a home game, and were asked to win at Cleveland, at London against the Titans, at Seattle and at Oakland. "It's a heck of a run," quarterback Philip Rivers said. "But it can become a one-game losing streak just like that." The Chargers have won this way and that way during this blur, prevailing in the last minute twice and in some unlikely other ways, too. In short, the Chargers are winning the games that they once made a habit of losing. They've prevailed in 13 of their past 16 games and if swagger comes with that, so be it. But they look at the Broncos, who are coming off a bye, with an arched eyebrow all the same. With the pass-rushing duo of Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, the Chargers know game-wreckers are just that and they could wreck a winning streak, too. "It's going to be a heck of a challenge," Rivers said. What was difficult was being on the road for so long. But Rivers, who is as tuned in as anyone else in the locker room, said the team has bonded over this stretch. Rivers claims the difference he sees with his teammates is player accountability. The veterans are setting the tone for the younger players to follow and they are open to being led. "It's a good mix," Rivers said. So the Chargers will be favored on Sunday and when facing the Cardinals in the following week. The Chargers could be 9-2 when facing the Steelers to open December. But first it's another November Sunday that Rivers said the Chargers can't overlook. "We still got a long ways to go," Rivers said. "It's a week-to-week deal and we know that." SERIES HISTORY 117th regular-season meeting, Broncos lead series, 64-51-1. The teams will have a hard time eclipsing last year's series when the Chargers lost and won in unique ways. Kicker Younghoe Koo had his 44-yard go-ahead field goal blocked, only after he had kicked it in his first attempt, only for it to be waived off by a time out. Then in the Broncos first visit to the StubHub Center, Travis Benjamin scored a couple of long touchdowns and the Chargers gave the Broncos their first shutout in 25 years.
