NFL Team Report - Los Angeles Chargers
--Quarterback Philip Rivers was selected fourth overall and then traded from the Giants to the Chargers for Eli Manning. Roethlisberger was the 11th selection in that draft. While Manning and Roethlisberger both have Super Bowl rings, Rivers has yet to win an NFL title. Rivers has also yet to grow tired of competing against the likes of a Roethlisberger. "It's never about the quarterback, because I have to worry about the defense," said Rivers, who set a NFL record by completing his first 25 passes against the Cardinals. "I always enjoy and appreciate - whether linked to him in a draft class or just a guy of his caliber, it is always great going against teams that are led by those kinds of guys." --Wide receiver Mike Williams, the team's top pick last year, continues to make the most out of his receptions. Williams leads the Chargers with seven scoring catches and of his 24 receptions, 20 have gone for first downs. --Defensive tackle Brandon Mebane continues to miss practice after not playing against the Cardinals because of personal reasons and he won't go on Sunday. With the Chargers already down defensive tackle Corey Liuget and inside linebacker Denzel Perryman for the year with knee injuries, the team will greatly miss Mebane's veteran presence. "He has some family things that he needs to take care of," head coach Anthony Lynn said. Darius Philon and Damion Square will start in the interior, with Justin Jones and T.Y. McGill seeing expanded roles. BY THE NUMBERS: 15. -- Average number of points per game the Chargers defense has allowed over the last eight games, which is tops in the NFL over that span.
