Oregon State Beavers, Oregon Ducks to play in 2024 College Baseball Series
By Joe Freeman | The Oregonian/OregonLive The Oregon State Beavers and Oregon Ducks will participate in a high-profile event at the beginning of the 2024 college baseball season, offering intriguing early tests for a pair of programs with high expectations. The rivals have agreed to play in separate exhibition tournaments in February as part of the College Baseball Series, joining a collection of talented programs at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The event will take place over three weekends at the home of the Texas Rangers and feature 14 teams, with games starting Feb.
16 and ending March 3. Proceeds will benefit Shriners Children’s. The Ducks, who are coming off a berth to the Super Regionals, will play in a six-team tournament during the first weekend of the event from Feb.
16-18. The Tennessee Volunteers, Baylor Bears, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Nebraska Cornhuskers also will be in the field. The Beavers will play in a four-team tournament the following weekend — from Feb.
23-25 — with the Arkansas Razorbacks, Michigan Wolverines and Oklahoma State Cowboys. It will be the first meeting between Oregon State and Arkansas since the 2018 College World Series, when the Beavers beat the Razorbacks to win their third championship. The final weekend of games will take place March 1-3 and feature four teams: Texas A&M, TCU, USC and Arizona State.
Nine of the 14 teams in the three-week event played in the 2023 NCAA Baseball Tournament, including two — Tennessee and TCU — that advanced to the College World Series. Last year’s field included 37 players who went on to be selected in the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft. It will be the first time in the four-year history of the event that Oregon and Oregon State will participate.
