Michigan State football introduces new all-black uniforms
You’ve heard, “Go Green!” and “Go White!” But what about … “Go Shadow!” Michigan State football introduced a black alternate uniform, nicknamed “Shadow,” via social media on Friday night as part of the Spartan Dawg Con festivities in East Lansing. The 100-second video released by the university showed a montage of classic Spartans uniforms, followed by closeups of a new all-black kit from Nike. The uniform includes a black jersey with white numbers and lettering featuring a dark green outline.
The jersey’s collar and shouders has a green “Greek Key”-patterned trim based on the Spartans’ pattern most notably used on the 2000 national-champion basketball team’s kit. That pattern is repeated as the center stripe on the black helmet, which has a black facemask, too. The Spartan logo on the side of the helmet is green, as well.
The pants repeat the pattern in a stripe down the side of the calves, with the Spartan logo in white on the right hip and the Nike logo in white on the left hip. The traditional green and white uniforms are also getting a slight makeover, with the “Greek Key” pattern stripes running in white on the green uniforms and in green and gray on the white. It's happening, report says The Spartans released a photo of all three uniforms with the caption, “If you can't swim, you're bound to drown because they're taking everyone to 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝑬𝒏𝒅. ” That’s a reference to the renamed (circa 2021) student section at Spartan Stadium, which itself referenced head coach Mel Tucker’s quote following the Spartans’ upset of Miami (Florida) on Sept. 18, 2021: “We wanted to drag them into the deep water where we live, with the strain and the struggle and the pressure.
