Oregon Ducks running back Dante Dowdell, linebacker Jerry Mixon suffer minor injuries in auto accident
By James Crepea | The Oregonian/OregonLive Oregon Ducks freshmen Dante Dowdell and Jerry Mixon suffered minor injuries in an auto accident Monday afternoon in downtown Eugene. Dowdell, 18, was driving a Dodge Challenger traveling eastbound on E. Broadway and Mixon was a passenger when they collided head-on with a BMW in the westbound left-hand turn lane that was beginning to turn south onto Patterson Street at approximately 2:41 p.
m. Monday, according to Eugene police. Neither driver suffered serious injuries, though Dowdell was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to police.
Oregon coach Dan Lanning said Dowdell was able to participate in the team’s first fall practice on Wednesday. “Thank God they’re both healthy,” Lanning said after Wednesday’s practice. “They were both in an incident there.
Jerry had a little laceration they were able to stitch up. Both of those guys are going to be good. ” An EPD spokesperson said an investigation determined the driver of the BMW, who is also 18 years old, failed to yield and was cited for not having a driver’s license.
