Texas TE Ja'Tavion Sanders reveals how Quinn Ewers changed this offseason

When quarterback Quinn Ewers burst onto the scene as a star high school recruit, he became notorious for sporting a bleach blonde mullet.
His popular hair style added to the mystique of the first quarterback since Vince Young to have a perfect rating.

While obviously Ewers’ hair had nothing to do with his struggles in year one as the starter at Texas, he opted to ditch the party in the back and go full business this offseason.
Along with cutting his hair, Ewers also worked his way into great shape, fine tuned his footwork and, not coincientally, improved his accuracy on the deep ball. While his hair seems like the most minor change of them all, star tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders told the media he believes it played a bigger role.
“His whole demeanor changed after he cut that mullet,” Sanders said. “I don’t know what it was about that mullet. Whatever he did after cutting that mullet, it’s like a whole new person. He went from a kid to an adult, and it shows.”
Sanders explained how Ewers has grown up as a person, while also becoming more of a vocal leader.
“The way he carries himself, he’s even starting to be more of a leader now on this team; maybe even one of the biggest leaders on this team really. The way he’s playing the game now, how he’s moving with the football, without the football — overall, he’s just a better man.”
These comments are something that Longhorns fans love to see as expectations for Ewers in year one were as high as any quarterback in the country, and while he did have bright spots he underwhelmed. He threw for 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 58% of his passes.
Ewers, his new hair cut, and the Longhorns are set to take the field on Sept. 2 against Rice.
