Marvin Harrison Jr. assessed Devin Brown’s readiness as Ohio State football’s quarterback

cleveland. com COLUMBUS, Ohio — Devin Brown’s ankle injury interrupted the second-year Ohio State football quarterback’s role as backup and proprietor of a specially designed goal-line package. He may soon be asked to do much more than that.

When Kyle McCord entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal on Monday, it made Brown the likely starter for the Cotton Bowl against Missouri on Dec. 29. Marvin Harrison Jr.

said he remains undecided on whether he will play in that game. He responded more decisively when asked if Brown is ready for the opportunity ahead: “Definitely. ” “He dealt with some injuries in the middle of the season, so he kind of lost some reps there,” Harrison said.

“But I think the bowl practice is gonna be great for him, help him get back into rhythm. He started practicing more towards the end of the year. ” Brown lost a starting quarterback competition with McCord that extended into the first two games of the season.

In five total games played, he showed many of the skills which made him a four-star, top-50 prospect in the 2022 class. He also displayed some of the inconsistencies which ultimately allowed McCord to win a competition, which coach Ryan Day said Brown had pulled ahead in at one point in the preseason. For the season, he completed 12 of 22 passes (54.

5%) for 187 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Those touchdown passes went to the two receivers most likely to lead the Buckeye offense into its next phase: 28 yards to Carnell Tate and 58 yards to Brandon Inniss. Brown also added 35 rushing yards and a touchdown out of that goal line package at Purdue.

He appeared to have returned from questionable status and was available in the regular season finale at Michigan if needed. If physically available, Harrison believes Brown’s competitiveness will show up in Dallas. “He’s definitely ready,” Harrison said.

“If anything he has that chip on his shoulder that he’s always had when he came in here. So I’m excited to see what he can do on the field as well. ” We can safely assume Brown hopes to see Harrison on the field as well, as unlikely as that still seems.
