Ryan Day provides Ohio State football injury update for preseason camp
INDIANAPOLIS — Ohio State football will nearly be at full strength for the start of preseason camp next week. At Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday, Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said all of the scholarship players who were out for the spring will be ready for the start of preseason camp. That begins Aug.
3 in preparation for the Sept. 2 season opener at Indiana. Returning starters Julian Fleming, Emeka Egbuka, Tommy Eichenberg and TreVeyon Henderson were all declared out at the start of spring practice.
Starting linebacker Steele Chambers and versatile offensive contributor Xavier Johnson soon joined them. Running back Miyan Williams and safety Ja’Had Carter were also limited for parts of the spring. Other players out for the spring included defensive lineman Mitchell Melton, safety Kourt Williams III, running back Evan Pryor and center Jakob James.
All are expected back to start camp. The only players expected to miss the start of camp are both walk-ons dealing with long-term injuries. Wide receiver Reis Stocksdale suffered a torn ACL in the spring and is not expected back until bowl season.
Tight end Kirk Herbstreit recently encountered a cardiac issue and will be out indefinitely. Two offensive linemen — Grant Toutant and Avery Henry — both medically retired over the summer. Caesars Ohio Sportsbook is open for bets now that Ohio sports betting has launched.
Other sportsbooks in the state include DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Ohio Sportsbook and Barstool Ohio.
