Calculating the 2024 Draft grades of all 257 picks

2024 DRAFT: 32 TEAMS AND 257 PLAYERS GRADED

Exhale. The 2024 NFL Draft did indeed conclude when Mr. Irrelevant, Jaylen Key (DB, Alabama) was drafted by the New York Jets with the No. 257 selection. We can break out the calculators and over analyze the selection process of the 32 teams and determine a method to the madness of placing grades on them. This is my first go-round at attempting sucha thing, so I figured I’d keep it pretty simple.

Mock Master Scoring System:

There were 4 key components when creating individual player grades and the teams overall draft grade.

  1. Prospect Grade- The score prospects received for their pre-draft workouts. There was not a single prospect that scored over a 7 in this factor. Therefore this factor is figured by (Prospect score divided by 7).
  1. Risk/Reward factor- Is the prospect a first-round quarterback? Did they have off the field issues or injury concerns? Did the team trade for the prospect? (i.e Detroit trading for Giovanni Manu. I factored in the risk of a 2025 3rd round selection being given up to select a prospect earlier than their projected ranking suggested.)
  1. Did they fill a team need- Self explanatory, correct?
  1. Draft position compared to pre-draft ranking- Did the team reach for the prospect before their ranked draft position, or did they get a steal?

Each component was graded with a number between 6-10 so that when averaged out it would give a percentage in either the 60, 70, 80, or 90 percentile. The standard grading scaled was used to determine the letter grade.

Example:

80-82.99=B-

83-85.99=B

86-89.99=B+
